How about a nice hike up Mt. Rokko in Kobe, with a stay at the Maya Hotel? Breathtaking!

I was thinking about including an old gold mine in Akita. When I went there they had the mine/museum itself (which was actually quite interesting and reasonably well done) and in another shaft they'd built a laser-tag-amusement-car ride. Which was amazingly cheesy. And therefore fun. But I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the place.
