Reminder: Liquids/Gels Carry-On Restrictions Begin 1March2007
Please note that Japanese airport security staff will start enforcing new rules regarding liquids, gels, and aerosols in carry-on baggage. The rules affect only international flights departing Japan.

Please note also that this rule will impact passengers connecting to international flights at any Japanese airport. If you are connecting through Japan, please consider placing your liquids and gels in your checked baggage at your origin.

Initial Report
I departed March 1 on an international flight bound for Narita. No liquids/gels nonsense at the origin. So it's only departing flights that are relevant to the rule.
Yes, I agree, it's silly.

Liquids/Gels Rigorously Enforced
I showed my mostly empty can of shaving cream to the Narita security agent a few days ago, but she wouldn't let me take it aboard. The size of the container matters, not the actual liquid content.
The airlines have tiny one liter plastic bags available. (They're comparable to sandwich bags in size.) If you can fit the container(s) inside that bag and seal it, it seems to pass muster for cabin luggage. I guess I now have to invest in mini cans of shaving cream.
