Substantial oneworld-related updates

I've updated the Unofficial Guide with a lot of new oneworld details, now that we have some idea about what's going on. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone know how to make this thread "sticky"?

Sorry, one small nit-pick: I don't believe Crystal status provides lounge access.

Wow, you're right. I think JAL might have changed that. (There are bits of the Web site that suggest Crystal used to get at least some lounge access.)

I think Crystal members can exchange miles for lounge coupons, but they don't get unlimited free lounge access like Sapphire and above. They have to "pay" for each visit with miles.

I've dropped back to Crystal this year but I'm still Global Club so I'm hoping I'll still have lounge access. I'll be back up to Sapphire next year though! ^

JAL Global Club members have better lounge access privileges than Crystal-only members. This is one reason why holding onto JGC membership is generally a good idea.

Just to check: JGC is (still?) for Japan based accounts only?

Thanks. I'll check if they offer JGC to Asia based JMB customers.

Wow, this is a great thread

I didn't know such an informative thread existed until now, since it did not show itself on the top page. I am posting this just to bring it back, so that it will get more attention from new members like myself.

Many thanks for your great job, sipples^

A great thread that was accidentally thrown up by a google search for "JAL seat guide". Should definitely be a sticky - it certainly answered a lot of my questions!

Looking forward to my first JAL flight NRT - SYD in J in May. And especially excited about my 2 day visit to Tokyo!!!

Should be changed to, all JAL Global Club members have oneworld Sapphire recognition.

My wife is JAL Diamond, and never joined JAL Global Club. She just earned 50,000 FLY ON Points for the year. Will she get the JGC application, or should she inquire about it (now that I talked her into it)?

No matter how much FOP earned this year, JMB member who have valid Sapphire status (JMG) or above (including Diamond - JML), can apply for JGC within their status period.

For overseas member, just call JMB for application should be ok. Or your wife can wait next year's Sapphire kit, should include application of JGC info.

This thread should be updated and made sticky, but unfortunately I'm not a good candidate for that job. My moving outside Japan combined with JAL's contraction means I don't fly JAL very often at all, unfortunately. That's a big change from when I qualified for JMB Diamond pre-oneworld.
