New checked bag allowance for North America routes starting April 1, 2009

Looks like they are reducing the North America route baggage allowance for economy class from 32 kg to 23 kg starting April 1, 2009 . I can't find the English version of the page. Maybe someone who speaks Japanese can confirm this.

Yes, they are reducing the luggage weight from 32 down to 23 kg, but it stated that you can still check-in two pieces of luggages. The size of the luggage has also increased from 158 to 273cm, so I think this may help to compensate the reduction in weight.

larger luggage means heavier luggage
I kinda wish they limit the combined weigh of the luggage instead putting a max weigh on the individual luggage. Now I might have to buy some smaller luggage because of this new rule

Dont really have to, since they increase the size. Maybe just have to put less things in it.

It might just help them make some money.IT should also reward flyers who dont check in luggage but on the same hand also be very strict about carry on as well. Maybe this is a chance to start a new era.
North America's travelers (including me) have been spoiled for years for our extra checked baggage allowance. To be honest, it's really easy for students to exceed that 20kg limit if they are flying all the way from Asia to America.

I agree they should try to restrict the carry on more. I always see people who obviously exceeds the carry on limit and takes over other passenger's storage space (and also slow down the boarding progress).

If you go down the route to award people without checked bags, maybe the fairest way to charge the passengers is to weigh them together with their baggages and charge them accordingly

Very true, but dont the airlines have special tickets for students that allow them to bring extra luggages? Is really nice to have 32kg allowance and able to check in two at the same time.
