Ouch...

While going over some of my things the other day I found an award ticket (NRT-SFO, out in C, back in F!) that expired three months ago. I had to change it to an open ticket due to some scheduling conflicts and considering that I had been looking forward to using it then, it was a shock to find out that I had completely forgotten about it until now. Its too late for JAL to recredit the miles so this is one expensive lesson for me

On a different matter I'm less than 200 points away from Premier but I have no more business trips planned for the year. I'll just have to take a quickie Osaka-Tokyo RT to reach the level, but it would be less painful to the wallet if I had been a couple of thousand points away (this RT will get me about 2600 points)

How about fly out to HND on 12/31 and return on 1/1. At least you got 1300 fly on point for the next year out of this trip

And you can do that without hurting your wallet if you first convert your miles to IC coupon points (10000mile:12000pt), and then use them on line to pay for your ticket(12000pt:15000JPY). (In short your 10K miles is worth 15000 JPY.) By purchasing your ticket this way, (ie. this is not an award ticket), your ticket will earn you miles you need.

Wow, hadn't thought of those. Great advice guys!

p.s. kojiro-san do you know if there's something similar for paper coupons as well?

If you do not have an IC account, I guess you will need to issue paper certificate (JAL coupons). But you still get the same conversion rate (ie. you will get coupons worth 30000 JPY in exchange for 20000 miles). No campaigns involved: at least not I know of.

The difference is that the conversion requires minimum 20000 miles for paper coupons (in case of IC coupons conversion starts from 10000 miles), and you cannot redeem them on-line. But you can purchase your ticket using those paper coupons at JAL's airport counters and city offices.

Here is the English link for JAL coupons (paper)

http://www.jal.co.jp/en/jalmile/use/coupon/jalcoupon/

For IC coupons,

You probably do not need English links, though...
