New service fee for reservations made over the phone and at airport counters

Looks like JAL is going to introduce service charge for reservations made over the phone and at airport counters starting April 1 2009. There isn't an English version of the press release yet but looks like this is for the tickets issued in Japan only. Someone who knows Japanese might be able to confirm this....

The announcement says the new fees (2100 over the phone and 4200 at city and airport counters) will be levied for new ticketing/fare adjustment/route change etc. processed in Japan. The announcement also mentions that these fees have already been implemented in a few countries overseas.

I would not be surprised a bit if JAL starts charging similar fees in the rest of the world soon or later. This is in line with the global trends, sad as it may be.

they've charged us like GBP20.00 from years ago in UK. I think they've just introduced online booking without any fee in UK....
