I'm a JGC member and plan to fly on an AA codeshare flight from Narita to San Diego (JL7016) in November.
What i should i expect in terms of advantages at the airport and/or during the flight ? (bagage priority, lounge, etc)
When i go to JAL website to reserve the flight, i already noticed that the seat assignment was quite limited (could only choose between window, aisle, or nothing...)

Thank you !
I am confused. Did you mean JL7016 from NRT to LAX operated by AA?
As a JGC member, you are oneworld Sapphire so you will get priority seating, boarding, and baggage handling when flying on AA.

You're right i wanted to say JL7016 NRT-LAX. I then need to take another flight to go to San Diego.
To answer your question, 2 reasons:
-timing (arrival time in San Diego plus longer connection time in LAX)
-price
I never took an AA flight before. Would you advise against it ?
Thanks again
I have only flown on AA domestically. I know other FTers such as BlackAdder has flown on AA codeshare international flights before, maybe they can provide you more info.
But if you fly on an earlier flight from LAX to SAN, it will be AA coded instead of JL coded. Not sure if it matters to you, but you won't earn the 400 FOPs bonus on the AA coded segments (assuming the fares was eligible) and those FOPs earned on the AA coded segments won't be counted towards JAL Group total.
And I just checked the schedule, seems like both AA and JL's NRT-LAX flights are connecting onto the same 11:55am flight to SAN in Nov. Were you looking at some other connecting flight in Nov?

ahhhh....JL7016 departs at 11:40 on some days making it an illegal connection of JL062 (I guess MCT is 2 hours). It's only a legal connection when it's departing at 11:55.
I thought JAL and AA are supposed to coordinate on schedules to avoid situation like this and to improve connectivity...oh well yes JL062 will give you a longer wait on certain days of the week unfortunately.

You don't say what class you are flying in but I'm guessing Y. I would call up AA and request an exit row seat, either 31 B or H. If those are unavailable, try for 41 C or G (row 41 has a couple extra inches of legroom).
Like JALPak has already mentioned, you have access to all the OW lounges in Narita and also the Admiral's Club in LAX.
AA is okay, not as good as JAL service wise but I've never had a bad experience on an AA long haul flight. I'd much rather fly JAL but sometimes schedule and price dictate choices.
Enjoy your trip!

Do you know if exit row seats are selectable from JL website? I know AA let oneworld elites select those on their website while flying an AA coded flight. Not sure if that's the case while flying JL codeshare and doing the seat selection on JAL website (or can you even select the seats from JAL website at all?)

It's been a year since I flew on the AA flight with the JAL codeshare and I think I just called them up and they gave me the exit row. I had booked this flight on Orbitz, I think. I don't remember at all what the options were on JAL's website.

Too bad I thought your domestic flight to ORD couple months ago was on JL codeshare.

No, lately I've been buying my tickets on AA.com and the connections have been mostly AA coded flights. Except for that one time where I found the great Orbitz ticket, all of the tickets I've bought lately have had AA flight numbers except for the connections from NRT to PVG.

Ha! It's OK, JAL gets the money either way thanks to the JBV
I think they have been doing some backend integrations since the JBV, I guess doesn't hurt to try and see if one can select those seats on JAL website even if it wasn't the case before.
