"We cannot be optimistic. Reservations are not growing on the back of concerns and uncertainty about the nuclear power plants," JAL President Masaru Onishi said at a press conference, citing an approximate 28% drop in domestic passengers and 25% decline in international passengers following the quake.

All Nippon Airways Co., the nation’s largest listed carrier, had a 25 percent drop in domestic passenger numbers through March 21 and a 15 percent decline in international travelers
Looks like JAL is hit much harder on international side than NH

Golden Week Forecast Data is out! Big drop in international load factor even after the big capacity cut and relatively smaller decrease in domestic traffic. But at peak period, JAL still expect int'l flights to be 95% full.

In seeking to improve profitability, capacities this year on international and domestic routes are 24.2% and 23.8% less than in 2010. The number ofreservations on the Group’s international flights is presently 208,486 and on domestic flights 820,474 - a decline of 32.8% and 26.1% respectively against the same period last year.

Mainichi has a comparison between JAL and NH...

JAL vs ANA
Domestic: -26% vs -10%
International: -33% vs +9%

How did that happen!?

http://mdn.mainichi.jp/travel/news/2...dm021000c.html

JAL said it has received 26 percent fewer reservations for flights from April 28 through May 8, while ANA reported a 10 percent decrease.

For international flights, reservations are down 33 percent for JAL but up 9 percent for ANA.

Surely more data will be revealed in the coming months as to how JAL did so terrible compared to ANA.
