Best beach in Sardinia?

Hey folks,

I am looking for the best beach in Sardinia. Well, it should not be a overcroweded one, instead I prefer a fine white sandy beach with wonderful clear water .
I do know that there are some wonderful beaches in the Costa Smeralda region, but also very expensive hotels, especially when I look at hotels like Cala di Volpe or La Pitrizzia, etc.
I am looking for more like a undiscovered pice of land - tranquille and a postcard panorama - so guys any recommentations where I should go?

PS: I will fly to Alghero, but considering to rent a car there to explore the island...

reagrds,
flo

I remember the beaches in the Villasimius being quite nice and not to crowded.

I stayed at Li Cuncheddi a couple of summers ago and the water is clear and delightful. The best, clearest water, is indeed on the northeast part of the island, the Costa Smeralda, and the hotel prices here can be astronomical.
If you are aiming for a lower price trip, stay farther south but take at least one day trip into the Arcipelago della Maddalena, where the water is absolutely pristine - clearer than a swimming pool.
There are also some small hotels actually in the Arcipelago but you'll definitely have to hunt or use a local specialist/Sardinian agency.
Beautiful island.
