Which Holiday Inn Express in Amsterdam?

Please help me choose between HIX Amsterdam - Sloterdijk Station and HIX Amsterdam - South, both at 15k points. Does one provide easier access to the center of the city than the other via public transportation? I'd also like to have bakeries/grocery stores/restaurants within walking distance if possible (I think there is a bakery and/or Starbucks at the Sloterdijk station). Thanks for your help!

P.S. I'm trying to save points which is why I am choosing 15k point hotels. Sometimes I'm willing to splurge on downtown location, but not this time . My stay is in 3.5 weeks and will post here and in the Platinum benefits thread about whichever hotel I end up with.

Sloterdijk is a straight ride to Amsterdam Centrale by train. Only takes 5 mins.

Would recommend Crowne Plaza Amsterdam Centre. There's a really good steak place just across the street

HI AMS South is about 3/4 mile south of the Amsterdam Zuid station (usually accessible via high speed train).

I'm planning on staying there in three weeks, so I can provide some info then.

I'm at the CP AMS Center end of Sept; have you stayed here & if yes, any clues on room choices?

HIX Sloterdijk is nice and comfortable - new interior. The breakfast buffet is comprehensive. The only food outlets nearby are in the station concourse. Otherwise its a 20 (+) min walk to local streets with nice restaurants / bars etc.

The only problem is factoring in the cost of the train to get to / from the hotel and being aware that trains stop late in the evening (earlier than you anticipate if you are enjoying yourself ...). You need coins for the train ticket machines and most (all ?) foreign credit cards don't work in the ticket machines

Hix ams south and cp ams south

I was in Amsterdam a few days ago and I stayed at the crowne plaza south and the holiday inn express south.
Both are new properties; cp is a very good hotel,
My room was spacious (I had a superior), breakfast is pretty good (15 eur per person at checkin, 25 if you buy it each morning). Location is very
Convenient, you can take the metro or a tram and be in the city center in 15 minutes. There is a Starbucks near the station.
Hix is near a smaller station (on te same line I guess) about
1 km south. Location is not very good (not a lot of things
That I saw within walking distance) but the hotel is the best Hix I've ever been to, and the staff if very kind and prepared.
Hope it helps

Nicola

I stayed at the HIX South a 2 months ago and it was very very nice. Got a nice Heineken upon arrival..guess that was my arrival amenity lol

Me and a friend stayed in a 2 bed room which was very nice. Internet was very fast and the breakfast was by far the best i've ever eaten in ANY HIX...trust me, all I ever stay at is HIX here in the states. This one was great.

The street car/subway (whatever you want to call it) is a 1 min walk and we rode that everyday into central station. Very quiet area...nice grocery store nearby...easily a 10/10. Some of the neicest staff also...I arrived at 1100am after a LONG flight and they still managed to check me in even at that early time.

STAY THERE!

I can't stress how GREAT the breakfast is..!!!! By the way, when we stayed there, they were still putting finishing touches on partsof the hotel since it was breand new. Didn't bother us though...the taxi driver's gsp couldnt find the hotel from the airport...the ipad came in handy!

Stayed at the HIX AMS South last week - definitely agree with the posts above...excellent HIX breakfast (like the above poster, I stay at HIXs in the US), and it really feels new. Staff is fantastic and very friendly, but didn't know that the nearby Asian place was closed on Sundays.

Two things worth noting:
1. The temperature controls in my room weren't the best -I don't know if it's a European thing (I don't think it is), but I like my room pretty cool...and the temperature was more inconsistent than anything else.
2. There's no fitness center in the hotel, or nearby (to my knowledge).

Overall, it's a VERY good HIX for the price (about 100-120 Euro), and a great use of 15K points.

Great review. Only reason I didn't use points was because I needed credit for the 5 nights in order to fulfill a bonus offer. Great hotel though...can't stress the breakfast enough lol

Thank you. Are you PC Platinum, & if yes, were you offered an upgrade?

HIX Sloterdijk

I'll recommend this place - new, clean, cheap (15k or 100E) - and a better location than the others I think. Lots of frequent trains from Schiphol, maybe 10 minutes, and lots of trains to Amsterdam Centraal. Was given 2 free drinks at the bar, which for once included almost every drink. Rooms were pretty good, especially for AMS. This place is really perfect for 1-3 night stays in the city.

Don't forget to buy your ticket from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal, so you can get off at Sloterdijk, check-in, and then ride the train into the centre for free!
