Holiday Inn Seattle (Downtown)

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King, given Corner King Suite.

How are the rooms?
Well-appointed two-room corner suite with two large LCD TVs with many HD channels, wet bar, sink, microwave, small fridge, sofa, coffee table, large work desk area (not facing TV)

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+Well-trained, warm front desk staff
+Large, well-designed suite
+Comfortable bed
+Large LCD plasma TV with 50+ channels (many in HD)
+Great location, 10 minute walk to Space Needle, Chihuly Garden & Glass, EMP Museum etc.
+Nice bar/restaurant off main entrance open late

Bad:
-Poor soundproofing of floors. Expect to hear stomping from the people above you. I had a couple insomniac elephants above roaming around all hours of the night

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
$300+ summer rate is overpriced for a standard HI offering, but fair relative to downtown Seattle, which rivals Manhattan hotel prices in the summer. Suites are not much more than a standard room for twice the space.

Crowne Plaza Seattle (Downtown)

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very much so.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King, requested upper floor. Given King on floor 32 of 33 (executive floor with club access incl. breakfast and evening appetizers).

How are the rooms?
Chic, highly functional room with everything a savvy traveler needs.

How is the exec. lounge?
Loud and cramped. OK appetizer selection. Drinks full price ($8 bottled beer). Only used once. Many came in and walked right out.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Well-trained, professional front desk staff
+ Stylish room with attractive work desk area, proper work chair, large HD TV, convenient outlets and hookups, large plasma with a nice HD menu, comfortable ottoman, fridge, robe, safe, chic artwork etc.
+ Awesome bed, quality linens, useful sleeping kit
+ Beautiful bathroom, well lit, quality toiletries, hot water in seconds, plush towels
+ Quiet and efficient A/C unit kept the room comfortable
+ Amazing view of Seattle from upper floor rooms

Bad:
- Cramped and loud exec. lounge with average appetizer assortment and full bar prices for alcohol
- Elevators pretty much always require a short wait and one must be perceptive and look around large pillars (odd design)
- Steep walks back to hotel

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Relative to other 3.5 star hotels in Seattle, $349 is in the summer is about right. Interestingly, Seattle hotel prices rival or surpass those of Manhattan in the summer months.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sea-Tac Airport

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King, given King Suite.

How are the rooms?
Two-room corner suite with two large LCDs, wet bar, sink, full-sized fridge, microwave, uncomfortable sofa, coffee table, work desk area (not facing TV).

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Excellent shuttle service (drive is 8-10 minutes to LINK light rail, 12-15 minutes to the airport)
+ Price is half what you would pay for a comparable hotel in downtown Seattle
+ Spacious suites well-equipped with full-sized fridge, microwave, two burner stove, sink and full dinnerware sets
+ Large separate bedroom area well off of main hallway, slept very well

Bad:
- Mini-sofa in living room not at all comfortable
- Strange bedroom design. Bed and TV on one side of room, rest of room completely vacant
- One could hear the footsteps of the people staying above you, but it was reasonable
- Cramped and aging bathroom
- Ultra slow elevators

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Very fair relative to downtown Seattle.

Holiday Inn Cincinnati Riverfront

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Not really.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King top floor river view, given King on floor 2 with a view of a wall.

How are the rooms?
Drab 1960s Holiday Inn with a nice TV and everything else long past its prime. Mass overhaul needed.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Almost all staff are really friendly and helpful
+ $1 trolley each way to Cincinnati (10 minutes) or Newport (20 minutes). It runs every 15 minutes
+ Comfortable bed with nice long pillows, albeit all soft

Bad:
- Sketchy area, only liquor stores and fast food outlets surround the hotel
- Dated facility, 1960s brown wallpaper with a faint musty smell throughout
- Lone Platinum perk is 500 points or one drink for your entire stay. No breakfast or room upgrades here
- Beyond the TV, rooms are in dire need of mass remodeling
- All furnishings showing age
- Ancient bed frame too small for King bed, would flip over if get near edge
- Closet had no door
- Simple desk chair barely rolled
- Ridiculously tight bathroom, door barely cleared tiny toilet
- Toilet designed for a small child, maybe 25cm off ground, seat about to fall off
- No fridge or microwave in room
- No safe (bizarre given sketchy area)
- Room had not been vacuumed in some time
- Housekeeping never serviced room despite being out all day every day. Ended up re-using towels/sheets all week in 110'F heat
- Restaurant/bar shuts down by 10pm (latest). Often they shut out the lights before 9pm
- Laundry room closed first three days of stay; printer off and on
- Mega-slow elevators on their last legs, used stairs all week

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
At $140+, a poor value for what is an old highway roadstop HI. You are paying for the proximity to downtown Cincinnati. Odd that it is called Cincinnati Riverfront given that it is located in Kentucky away from the river with no view at all.

Very Much

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 basic rooms. One on a BRG. One on reward. One was updated to Executive, one to a 1-bed suite on the exec floor

How are the rooms?
Fine, quiet warm, 1-bed suite was a really good size (didn't know they had these at this property)

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Executive level get 20% off F&B, free snacks in room, 1 free drink voucher per room, a free movie per room.
+ Good staff
+ Discounted car parking, 8 per 24hrs
+ Nice beds...good sleep

Bad:
A/C bearing needed changing, very noisy

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Brilliant value. Have stayed here a few times, it's a great location and hotel.

ANA Crowne Plaza Osaka

- What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 Single Beds Superior Nonsmoking (really a standard room), "upgraded" to 2 Single Beds Superior Nonsmoking Corner (supposedly a little bigger size)

- How are the rooms?
Clean, decor is pretty bland. The pictures of the club floor rooms do look nicer.

- How is the exec. lounge?
No access

- What was good and what was bad?
I can't say I have any real complaints, as the concierge was very helpful, staff were polite, and the room was clean. The location was great for going out and grabbing a bite to eat, and the shuttle to Osaka Station was very helpful to get around as the hotel is a little ways away from the station. It is probably one of the better Crowne Plazas I've stayed in.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Our rate included breakfast and was an attractive rate, so would return.

.

When I stayed at this hotel, I was upgraded to high floor club room with club access (cheapest advance rate).
Club lounge has no natural light but is very pleasant.
Club room was not huge but very well designed, and offers a nice view over the city.
I will certainly stay next time at the IC Osaka to try it, but I keep a very good memory of this hotel for location and service (and I like very much the city of Osaka).

Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 Double Beds
2 Double Beds

- How are the rooms?
Clean, smart

- How is the exec. lounge?
No access

- What was good and what was bad?
Friendly checkin staff - told us where to go in central 'pool. Also got choice of 600 points or drink and a snack.

What was totally unexpected was we were told when we checked in that breakfast was included for all three of us - assumed would get knocked back when we went down for breakfast but we were also on the list there.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
20,000 points - VFM - would return

Only went there because the central Liverpool hotels had no points availability, and its about 15 mins by car to central Liverpool.

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Gold Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a regular King room. Did not receive upgrade. Received 2 free glasses of wine, welcome fruit platter, welcome letter as gold recognition.

- How are the rooms?
biggest king bed i've seen, can see signs of dated room but effort has been put in to keep it in shape. Good city view. Though I've read negative words regarding the renovation works going on in the hotel from past 2 weeks, its not bothering me on 9th floor. Minimal disturbance.

- How is the exec. lounge?
Didn't have access

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: View, bed, gold recognition freebies, fast check-in
Bad: Slightly dated rooms

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Will return with an upgrade, otherwise no. Stayed here to qualify "into the nights" promo.

Complimentary room upgrades aren't a benefit of Gold Elite status. As a Gold Ambassador, you'll only receive upgrades at InterContinental hotels.

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked best flexible rate , and received an executive room

How are the rooms?
Not huge but comfortable
Elegant renovated design
Bathroom with walk-in shower - Grhe rain forrest
Large flat TV with good selection of French channels, plus some international channels
Kettle with tea/coffee set
Very quiet

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- Hotel, with elegant design. It is a renovated Novotel, but has nothing left from standardized Novotel design
- Very friendly staff
- Good selection of French business papers (Les chos, Le Figaro), coming with IHT (at the bar and in the room)
- Free rooftop parking
- Small outdoor pool
- Pleasant restaurant

Bad:
- Location is convenient for business in the district, but definitely not for leisure (you need a car, or prepare to take - expensive - taxis: it can take 20+ minutes from TGV central station)

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Yes, but definitely only for business

I sort of disagree. It is a fine choice for tourists too, but as you said only with a car. I did exactly that when we went down to Lyon to see Disney on Ice. Of course there are lots of hotel choices in Lyon, but if you want IHG points, or use points, then this is a fine hotel if you have a car as it's a short drive into the city.

But if you have no car, Crowne Plaza is certainly a better choice for more central location and tramway station.
