CP LAX

Crowne Plaza Los Angeles (LAX)

What is your Priority Club status?
Spire

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Not so much

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
- Booked Standard, given Club Executive, but the Club was closed for the holidays.

How are the rooms?
The rooms seem to have been redone since I was last here and look pretty good. But still the same size of course.

How is the exec. lounge?
Closed for the holidays, so I can't report anything. I was given a free drink and free breakfast coupon to cover for the closure.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
- room renovation

Bad
-Unusably bad Wifi Internet. I had to change my next planned stay to the Westin LAX.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I won't return due to the poor quality Internet

Crowne Plaza Rome - St. Peters

What is your Priority Club status?

Spire

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes, completely.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 consecutive Rx; booked 2 nights on points, 2 nights standard room, Rx King Suite (2 bath) for all 4 nights.

How are the rooms?
Fairly modern. Plenty of power outlets. Understated, conventional lamps/lighting. Great waterfall showers. Furniture in living room was dated. Good-sized balconies.

How is the exec. lounge?
No input

What was good and what was bad?
Couple of hitches with the room itself - had a bad water pot that caused a short, but they replaced it right away. Also one balcony door would not lock, but again, a tech was in the room fixing it within 5 minutes.

Restaurant was actually really good, and the prices were competitive as well.
Spa in the basement was pretty relaxing - dry sauna and heated indoor pool, as well as a steam room and roman bath.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Priced in dollars it seems a bit high (without an upgrade, anyway) - but booking on points @ 30,000/night and getting a suite, I'd absolutely return.

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?

Spire Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very much so

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked best advance rate and received a club room with club access

How are the rooms?
Around 30sqm
Elegant corporate design.
Seating area with very comfortable Stressless armchair
Desk with usb charger
Massive Samsung smart television with good selection of national and international channels (you can watch movies in English on Spanish channels by changing the audio language). Same smaller smart television in the bedroom.
Large and elegant bathroom with walk-in shower and bathtub. Fair Trade and The White Company amenities
Nespresso coffee machine and kettle
View over the city
Very quiet

How is the exec. lounge?
Simply one of the best Crowne Plaza club lounges!
Elegant design
Great staff
Dining area with excellent selection of cold/warm tapas and drinks
Breakfast area, with very good hot and cold breakfast
Seating area with massive curved Samsung television, books and magazines

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- Very central and convenient location (Aerobus stop at Plaça Espanya is just 10 minutes walk to hotel; do not expect seats when back to the airport still). Bikes can be rented near Plaça Espanya. Metro and bus stop around the Plaça.
- Great Tickets tapas bar by Ferran Adria is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel
- Very nice club lounge
- Nice suite
- Friendly staff
- Great weather. Going to the beach in November is a real pleasure!
- I was received by the new Reception manager, who worked previously for the Ritz Carlton Arts Hotel: very professional and welcoming. I was proposed a very late check-out without asking until 6pm.
- Electric bicycles and cars can be rented at reception

Bad:
- Nothing

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Yes, excellent option in Barcelona

I was told by the Reception manager that the hotel has plan for renovation (including a rooftop pool in 2016)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Absolutely!

Good:

Yes! Terrific value for Grey Cup week.

Holiday Inn Winnipeg Airport - Polo Park

Holiday Inn Winnipeg Airport - Polo Park

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Not really. Lots of potential, but poorly-run.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King, received same in 3/4 empty hotel.

How are the rooms?
+ Modern room, nice Aboriginal touches, but sparse. 3m x 3m on either side of bed empty! No ottoman or chair.
+ 9m deep x 3.5m wide, slightly larger than a typical HI

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Chic lobby & room, glass shower, ergonomic showerhead
+ Excellent restaurant 'The Hub' ($40 for a meal & 2 beer, rather pricey)
+ Heavenly bed
+ Fridge/microwave in all rooms
+ Decent hot tub/steam room
+ 7 minutes from Winnipeg airport

Bad:
- No chair in room
- Poor soundproofing - hallways very loud (housekeeping chats, door slams, vacuums), amplified by ceramic tiles
- Connected room very loud, you hear everything (TV, coughs, snoring, plumbing etc.)
- Roaring HVAC unit surges on & off all night in short bursts
- No restaurant/room service menu in room
- Advertise 5km shuttle, but only goes to airport
- Shady characters in lobby
- LOUD fire alarm went off 90 mins after check-in - fire trucks took 15 minutes to arrive
- Ridiculously slow/unresponsive TV - 20 seconds of black screens for each channel change

- Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Fine on points. Still have many issues to sort out.

What is your Priority Club status?
Spire

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
- Booked Standard, given Executive

How are the rooms?
Old school HI, but with modern furniture. Decent enough for the price.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
- Free parking
- Free breakfast
- 20% lunch/dinner coupon

Bad
- There was a large crew of 3rd shift demo workers staying at the hotel who had their happy hour at 7am each day at the hotel, but it really didn't bother me as I was up early myself each day.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes.

Crowne Plaza Auckland

What is your Priority Club status?
Spire

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 QUEEN BEDS for 25000 points
Upgraded to 2 QUEEN BEDS DELUXE on 26th floor (highest level below Club floors)

How are the rooms?
Spacious, bright, nice view (directly opposite another high-rise hotel, but can look sideways)

How is the exec. lounge?
Not given access

What was good and what was bad?
- Recognised as Spire, but appear to have received the same benefits a Plat would have, except for a thick red envelope which will go in the recycling
- Given free late check-out for 2pm; housekeeping didn't disturb until then
- Wifi was good and fast, but got a 2GB limit (this is standard in NZ due to its distance from the rest of the world)
- Staff were very helpful when I needed some extra business items

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Could have gotten better value for the points elsewhere, as the cash price is quite cheap, but have too many points to burn.

Candlewood Suites Montreal Downtown Centre Ville

Candlewood Suites Montreal Downtown Centre Ville

What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Queen Studio Suite, given same, nice corner room on 11th floor.

How are the rooms?
Oversized one-room suite, 6m deep x 8m wide + large bathroom. Updated. Fully equipped.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A.

What was your welcome gift?
500 points or nuts & H2O.

What was good and what was bad?

Good
+Excellent staff, very attentive and helpful
+Large suite for downtown Montreal
+Full-size fridge, stove/oven, microwave & dishwasher makes this ideal for longer stays
+Newer heating unit, updated since last stay, need to set to 24' to get room close to 21' in winter
+Ultra-comfortable beds/pillows
+Large LCD with 50+ channels, many in HD & Blu Ray DVD player
+Oversized bathroom with near instant hot water, ergonomic showerhead (average pressure)
+Plush towels
+Close to Old Montreal, Chinatown & Place des Arts
+Quiet on back side facing courtyard with nice view of Mount Royal
+Free laundry facilities on main floor
+Fast elevators with key card required to activate floor (good security)

Bad
-Lots of seedy characters in the area of St Laurent and Ste Catherine (aggressive vagrants, prostitutes, drug pushers etc.)
-Significant dead space - could use a small dining table
-Sparse cutlery in kitchen consisted of 2 knives, 2 forks and 2 tiny teaspoons

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
At $110/night, very reasonable for downtown Montreal, especially if you value a spacious apartment-style setup. They have competitive long-term rates.

Note: Candlewood Suites shares a large building with Les Suites Faubourg (Holiday Inn up to 2014). I prefer Candlewood for the full kitchenette & being further up from busy Rene Levesque, as Candlewood rooms are on top floors 9 thru 14.

Crowne Plaza Osaka

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
so-so

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest room, 1 Small Double Standard (with breakfast)
Received the same room but the front desk said it's located at a corner.

How are the rooms?
Normal room, nothing special

How is the exec. lounge?
No lounge access

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- Free Shuttle to Osaka Station
- Staff with great attitude.
- For breakfast, you can choose Japanses style breakfast(set menu) or buffet

Bad:
- Room service is too busy to handle all the customer. (called twice for a bucket of ice)

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
If I can pay low season fee, I would consider return.
This is my 2nd stay, but it's worse than my previous experience.

Received the same room.

Normal room, but with a great view facing the Kanazawa Station

This is one of the nicest Crowne Plaza I have ever stayed (considering the price and the location)
I would definitely stay at this hotel if I visit Kanazawa again

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
It was fine, but on days where there were lots of mainland tourist groups, the elevators were like molasses.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Had a split reservation. First was a booked superior room that was upgraded to a deluxe room. Second was a booked deluxe room that was upgraded to a corner view room. (This was originally upgraded to a club room - which was exactly the same as a deluxe room but on a higher floor. Club lounge access and amenities do NOT come with complimentary upgrade, so I requested a corner room (not Club level) instead.)

How are the rooms?
Nice and modern. Fairly large for Hong Kong standards. Contemporary rooms and bathrooms.

How is the Club lounge?
There is no separate Club lounge, but they use the rooftop Italian restauarant/bar as the club lounge. Access was not offered as Platinum even with a Club room upgrade. The purchase fee was $500-$600HKD per night (cannot recall exactly), but I declined.

What was good and what was bad?
Very convenient to mall and MTR. General location is 30 minutes away from anything in the city center though. No drink voucher, but did receive free breakfast for one person after showing them confirmation in email. They said they phased out free breakfast for Platinum - but some people still report that they received it, so unsure what is actually true. Minibar includes one round of 4 free beverages: Coke, Coke Zero, Blue Ice beer, and Skol Beer. I was here for over a week, and had 2 different breakfast egg cooks during my stay. Neither of them knew how to make over easy eggs without breaking at least one or both yolks. The old guy was particularly grumpy and didn't understand a lick of English (odd for western hotels).

Value for $$$ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The room rate was under $200 usd per night, so it was reasonable for Hong Kong. However, I was attending a conference so I was in the area. If I wasn't in the area, I would not stay that far out of the main city areas - the hotel is not an attraction in and of itself, but would not hesitate to stay here if I had something else going on nearby.

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 queen beds for 25000 points
Upgraded to Executive Suite due to honeymoon stay

How are the rooms?
The Executive Suite was extremely generous; massive living area downstairs with a round dining table, spiral staircase to a top floor with another humongous room, king bed, massive balcony, and fantastic bath.

How is the exec. lounge?
My favorite lounge I've been in so far. Really great breakfast with lots of options. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
It's probably not even fair to answer this given the upgrade we received. 25,000 points for a room that normally costs $300 USD? Yes, please!
