I'll be here tomorrow for the first time. I'm a Spire Ambassador and booked a Deluxe Room because it was only 100 HKD more than the superior room. Will be using the free weekend night certificate.
What should I expect or reasonably request in terms of an upgrade?
I'm going to read through as much of this thread as I can but does anyone have any tips or advice to help me enjoy my stay (like any info about current construction or rooms to avoid)?

As an Intercontinental Ambassador, you should get a 1 category upgrade which will mean Harbour View room since you booked a Deluxe room. Last year, they were doing 2 level upgrade but apparently that stopped this year. I booked a junior suite last year and got upgraded to the executive suite. I did the same booking this year, but I got the superior suite instead. So I canceled and booked the superior suite so I would get the executive suite. The upgrade will actually show up on your reservations after 1 day of booking.
I just checked my account online and it shows Harbour View Room.

Has anyone stayed at both the IC HK and the Conrad HK? What are your thoughts on which property is superior?

i have done both. If you are indifferent to location (and it might be argued that in some respects the Conrad has the better location), then the IC is I think a much better property all round. I have normally had suites at the Conrad and only had suites at the IC but the IC is far better, bigger rooms, better aspect, better service.

Email them yesterday to ask for non-smoking room and got an email back confirming that.
The email also said the following:
By the chance of this email, we would like to introduce our Club InterContinental- an exclusive haven for business and leisure, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and personalized business and concierge services in a spacious and luxurious, but private setting for enjoying buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.
Valuing your membership, we are pleased to offer a very special discounted price for club access. The special supplement fee is HKD 826 (originally HKD 1,180) for single / HKD 1,036 (originally HKD 1,480) for double, plus 10% service charge per room per night. Would you like to take advantage of this special offer and enjoy our luxurious club services? Please note that advance reservation is highly recommended before the club gets fully reserved.

Oh upon check in I was given not only a free drink certificate but another certificate for 135 HKD food and beverage credit. They said it was good for any food and beverage on the property, including room service, but excluding minibar.
So they're offering $17 USD to try to get you into a restaurant or to call room service, where you'll almost certainly end up spending much more.
I might use it tomorrow to order ala carte bacon and eggs for breakfast, the certificate should just about cover it.

Deluxe Harbour View Room vs. Superior junior Suite Pool View. I understand the suite is larger but which room overall has the best view and location? As an Ambassador I was upgraded to the suite but I'm not sure I want the upgrade since I like the DHV room. Suggestions?

I normally book the pool view JS to get a proper suite with harbour view, never actually stayed in one though.

I am able to make a reservation for early April as well as mid May...
Maybe the hotel will stay open during the renovation?
It's quite costly to close the whole hotel for a year.

If I book an award stay as an Ambassador will I be upgraded to a deluxe room? Can I pay cash to upgrade to a Harbour View room and does anyone have an idea of what that would cost? Thanks.
