Curious points calculation
A slightly curious one.
My understanding of the points earning scheme in HI properties in the US was that for each whole dollar spent, net of taxes, I would be awarded 10 base points.
But I just made a reservation at the HI Long Island City as follows:
Item $
Night #1 162.24
Night #2 171.84
Sub-total 334.08
Tax @ 14.75% 49.28
City Tax 7.00
Grand total 390.36
As a Gold member I would have expected to earn 10x334 = 3340 base points plus 334 elite bonus = 3674 points total
But the reservation says I will earn 3245+324 = 3569.
Obviously the 105 point difference (3569 vs 3674) is neither here nor there, but why the variance (about 3%) ?
Clearly not an exchange rate thing as all calculation in $ ????
