Warning: Check your points for European stays

Just got back from a trip to Europe and went through and audited my IHG point earning compared with the folios I got from each hotel. Just 1 of 7 stays posted correctly.

2 stays had VAT deducted twice before qualifying spend was calculated.
3 stays were converted from EUR to USD but I earned points on the EUR amount (for example, it said in the Room column on earning details 100 EUR, 110 USD, but at the bottom where it says total qualifying spending, the amount is 100 USD and that's what my point earnings were based on).
1 stay posted correctly but I didn't earn any points for using the hotel's full-service laundry (is this correct)?

I'm going to call IHG tomorrow and complain but watch out you guys for IHG shortchanging you on points.

It happens quite frequently these days.

It's probably easier to email IHGService than call tbh. If you have a copy of the folio scan that and send it as it makes it easier for them to check and they can adjust it with min minutes that way.

Isn't the removal of VAT correct? I'd be surprised anywhere to get hotel points on a tax

Removal of the VAT is correct but sometimes some hotels deduct it twice which is the issue the OP has.

Unbelievable. Just stayed at the IC Adelaide and the IC Melbourne and they are doing this too.

"Any excuse to pinch a penny..." Seems to be their operating principle towards points awarded these days.

A rewards program isn't a rewarding experience if I have to play whack-a-mole with it.

Read the article and laughed when I saw that they said they were "aware of the situation" and had been so for months now.

Aware of it with absolutely no intention of fixing it systemically since it benefits them.

Wow.....IHG is really cheap. I emailed in and they agreed to credit my account 415 points but instead actually credited 145.

Wrong it is quite the reverse, above situation actually costs IHG money/revenue.

Hotels have to buy the points from IHG that are posted at 10points/usd for a guests stay, so if less points posted by an hotel, that is less points revenue for IHG.

I thought IHG franchise hotels pay IHG a percentage of revenue as licensing fee which covers the cost of points issued, thus it would benefit IHG to shortchange people points.

Always worth checking! I had a 2 night stay at Crowne Plaza Chennai where my bill came to £600 but got just 2442 elite points. After emailing IHG and sending the bill I got another 5,002 elite points.

It's happened to me twice at Chennai. First 2 night stay credited as 1 night.

Second 4 night stay had correct qualifying nights but low number of points that they then corrected after my email. it didn't update my accelerate dashboard properly either.

Something is wrong somewhere!
