Please post your Ambassador experiences (Archive Thread 2016)

Ambassador Experience Thread 2016

This thread is about Member holding Ambassador Status in the InterContinental Hotels and Resorts Loyalty Program. A template for the post is provided in this post.

Regions

Africa
North America
Central and South America
Asia Pacific
Europe
Middle East
Oceania

Regions are related to the InterContinental Hotels and Resort location list.

A list with older Ambassador Experience Thread could be found here.

There are also the following threads for additional information
Royal Ambassador Experience Thread 2016
Rewards Club Experience Thread 2016

Please note

This thread is dedicated to the report of the experience and not so much about discussions about each individual hotel, which should be done in the hotel. One of the moderators will add the report to the overview in each thread, which is listed in regions.

If you post here as either Rewards Club or Royal Ambassador Members, you post will be moved accordingly without further notice.

Given that this thread has be so many times moved, merged and split in the past, that it was better to start a new one from scratch. I apologies for the inconvenience caused by this decision.

How to post to this thread

How to post

1. Do not use the "Reply with Review Button" but the regular one

2. Put the name of the hotel in the title of the post and the thread

3. Use the following format by extracting it, ie by using "reply quoting", copying the content into memory, then backing out of "reply quoting" and then pasting the copied content into a new post. Each line is formatted so that you can paste in between them having deleted these opening comments:

----

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

How are the rooms?

How is the exec. lounge?

What was good and what was bad?

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Intercontinental London - The O2

Intercontinental London - The O2

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

King Superior; upgraded to King Deluxe Canary Wharf View

How are the rooms?
Brand new (obviously) and very smartly done. The room is around 30sqm so isn't huge but perfectly large enough. Large bathroom with separate bath/shower and didn't have Agraria bath product (Anne Semonin I think?).
Unit in main room with coffee maker, mini bar, safe and kettle.
Very comfortable bed; sockets everywhere (including 2 USB by the bed)

How is the exec. lounge?
Not yet open

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Excellent welcome. Was greeted as a Spire Ambassador on check-in (and again at breakfast), and after a quick check-in process was offered a guided tour of the hotel which is looks superb
Good welcome gift (chocolates) and variety of fruit
Great breakfast (included in Be Our First Guest rate) and many dining/drinking options in the hotel

Bad
Not everything is yet open - but obviously this will change (by the end of the month I'm told)
The hotel was very empty, but the whole O2 complex seemed quiet given it was New Year's Day

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Will definitely be returning. Given its location, the hotel's rates are a bit on the high side (i.e. quite a bit more than those at Excel), but as far as I'm concerned, this is a very good hotel and will be able to justify the premium. It is just in zone 2 on the Underground so it doesn't cost much or take much time to get to Westminster/Green Park/Bond Street/etc on the Jubilee Line

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Classic Room (Using 50,000 points) upgraded to Superior Room then upgraded again to Executive Room

How are the rooms?

Very clean, well maintained. Decent size with a view overlooking Park Lane (Hyde Park at a push). Small(ish) bathroom. Great comfortable bed.

How is the exec. lounge?

Access not allowed or even offered at a fee.

What was good and what was bad?

GOOD: Staff are all very friendly. Spotlessly clean throughout. Recognised on arrival as a Spire Ambassador Member. Great location. Early check-in at 11:30am permitted, late check-out of 4pm permitted. Welcome gift was a packet of Shortbread biscuits.

BAD: Service slow in the hotel bar even though it was pretty quiet. No Newspaper offered.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Great value. Booked on 30th December for the following night (New Year's Eve). Executive Room rate was showing at over 700 so definitely worth 50,000 points. Would definitely return.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked deluxe Room, upgraded to King Bed Executive Suite

How are the rooms?

Big 2 level suite. Living Room + desk + restroom downstairs. Bedroom + bathroom upstairs. Some traces of wear but still ok.

How is the exec. lounge?

Nice lounge, had only breakfast there. Friendly attendants, ok choice.

What was good and what was bad?

Good
Fast and efficient Check-In with separate Check-in for Ambassador members.
Welcome gift (chocolates?), water and variety of fruit were provided.
Was very cheap (about $100/night)
Outside (free) parking was full one night, had to park inside. Was provided with a free exit voucher without hesitation.
Free movie
Bad
Huge hotel, felt deserted (hence the low price?)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Very good value for this low price, will definitely check out the rates when returning.
