Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial district
Just staying there for 2 nights on points I luckely booked it with the preopening rate of 20k points , now it is the usually 35k for New York.
The location is very good in Downtown just above the Subway line 1 station Rector street, so you are in midtown fast ,also it is about 2 blocks from WTC and 10 minutes walk to staten island ferry.
there are some small delis and restaurants near.
But now we come to the Hotel itself, there are still working proccess at the main entrance ,and the Lobby is just a joke and not to be called so.
very very small not exciting at all with a small front desk and really no place to move around ,by the 2 elevators, yes only 2 here are 3 computers are free to use but no restaurant ,it is outside and the so called lobby bar i couldnt even see it because the Lobby is a totally joke and I was even more shocked with my upgraded king room on floor 45.
You enter with 2 luggage and there is no place for it, the room is the smallest I have stayed in Manhattan even the Holiday inn express are much bigger.
The King size bed is so cort , short in lenght that my feets are hanging outside the bed.
The bathroom is only for hobbits so small that you will cry and only one soap and shampoo for the room, the tissues are above the toilett because there is no place to put it, no table to put your toothbrush the washbasin is like one in the kindergarten for childrens, and the water springs out to the floor if you try to wash your skin.
no points or welcome drink or letter was given at check inn as Platinum ,just the so called upgraded kingsize room for hobbits.
by the way the toilett seat was dirty and belive it or not, on one of my head sheat was a dry blood sign.
Would never stay again in this NEW HOTEL it is a totally joke even for 20k points. The smallest room I have ever stayed ,avoid it at all and take another Hotel for the same 35k points a night, because if you are travelling together there is no place in the room.

Is this the tallest HI property in the world? I am curios to hear someone having positive news on this, since your feedback is not really encouraging. I was about to book this on points, but I will wait and see.

Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial district
yes it should be the highest, there is no watter bottle or minibar in the room and housekeeping was knocking and ringing the door at 8:30, even with the no disturb sign outside.

I stayed here in November. It has 3 subway lines at its disposal.
Nothing wrong with it. I booked it at $150 per night on F&F rate.
Rooms are small in NYC, but you don't stay in the room all dayt

Staff is friendly, and they have a restaurant that serves breakfast, part of the property.
Not bad location wise.

Frequent Business Traveler magazine (which I serve as ed.dir.) published a review on the magazine's website of the property. While I didn't stay there (the review is by a colleague), I did attend the grand opening celebration and look at the rooms, including his. Photos from the opening and of the hotel are part of the review.
Holiday Inn Manhattan-Financial District – Hotel Review
Holiday Inn Manhattan-Financial District – Hotel Review
The first Holiday Inn opened its doors in 1952 in Memphis, Tennessee, the brainchild of Kemmons Wilson, who had the idea to build his own motel after a string of encounters with inconsistent and poor quality roadside lodging on a family trip to Washington, D.C. The name, a reference to the 1942 film of the same name, was originally given to the hotel by architect Eddie Bluestein as a joke, but the title was forever solidified in the hotel industry. The chain grew rapidly, and by 1968, the 1,000th Holiday Inn had opened, in San Antonio, Texas.
Fast-forward to 2015, and another milestone in the company’s history: the grand opening of the world’s tallest Holiday Inn hotel, which formally opened in January with the appropriate festivities including ribbon cutting and red-velvet cake. The sliver-like Holiday Inn Manhattan – Financial District stands 50 stories high, and is located just two blocks from Wall Street, in the heart of New York City’s Financial District.
Upon arrival, while there was a slight wait for the room to be readied, I busied myself on my computer, connected to the Internet via the hotel’s complimentary Wi-Fi. After a very short wait, the room was ready, and I was off to the 46th floor....

Surprised that nobody posted about the burst pipe last Monday.
At 4am a pipe burst and guests had to evacuate their rooms (lots of fun in the worlds tallest HI).
There was a lot of confusion as hotel employees at the beginning sent people back to rooms and the fire department made them walk downstairs again. Also the communication over loudspeakers did not work at all during the evacuation (initially there was an announcement to wait for staff to investigate, after that it was just the alarm and an "attention please, attention please" every few minutes)
No information from the hotel for a very long time.
When I walked 40+ floors back to my room to pack I met several people who had not left their rooms at all and had no clue what exactly was going on (that was past 9am, phone lines at the hotel were still down, but the the water had stopped and guests were able to return to their rooms to pack).
Some people carried their stuff downstairs themselves and the hotel started to organize people to carry bags downstairs. I am not sure if there was any logic behind whose bags were carried first, I was unlucky and had to wait until the evening (I left at some point to go somewhere warmer than the lobby).
The hotel refunded the one night affected by this. Guests were relocated to other hotels. I checked out that day and was not offered the possibility to go to another hotel until check out time.
There was little to no information from hotel employees on what happened. I can understand that you need time to react, but I did not have the impression that there was a real plan in place even after some hours.

water damage and a restless night's sleep
I recently stayed at the HI Manhattan - Financial and it was an unsatisfactory experience. I had stayed at several HI / HIE in another area happily. Upon arrival at the MF I am told that HALF the hotel is unavailable due to water damage.
There were also many hard hat workers upon arrival in the evening. They were milling about in the small lobby, not the greatest welcome to what I thought would be a great experience at a 50-story beautiful Holiday Inn.
I was never informed of this damage by email prior, so that perhaps I could of made an alternative selection. I rxd a room on a high floor which was nice. However, there was this incessant sound which kept me awake. I thought it was from the ac / heater unit, but I turned it off and the sound was still there. The room was also drafty, due to a stairway door that would not close. (Later, I figured out to toss a pillow by the door)
I investigated the floors higher (Damage was on 26-50). I found many cooling units used to get rid of the water damage. I suspected the sound may have been the collective noise from these machines.
This was the first time in a hotel I had to use ear plugs. I also woke up at 3am due to not being able to sleep, which is when I went to investigate the upper floors.
Perhaps some discount could have been offered upon check-in?
