Platinum upgrades question
Hi everyone. I tried searching a bit for this but couldn't seem to find an answer...
Do IHG platinums get upgrades on reward stays or only on paid stays? I see from the benefits chart that plats get "complimentary upgrades subject to availability"
I am thinking of using points (and a Chase CC free night) to stay at the IC Singapore so I just wondered if upgrades would be applicable.

Officially only on paid stays - however, at their own discretion, there are plenty of properties who will upgrade reward stays too.
Take into account that Platinum status does not entitle you to upgrades at Intercontinental Hotels (although again some hotels might make an exception for this) - you need (Royal) Ambassador status.

I have yet to experience an upgrade on award stays as a platinum (did 4-5 stays so more, mostly 1 nights)
However when I batch my paid stays with my award stays (let say 3 nights paid, 1 night award etc), im usually given the same room/same benefits for my paid stays for my continuing award stays.

Platinum here via the credit card. I did a one night award stay at the IC in Buckhead and got a corner room. I don't know how that compares to other rooms, but the double view was nice.
