I've had a couple of these newfangled stays (although only the points, no drink, too) and the points posted prior to checkout. Clerk at LAX CP said basically, "Just don't go log on in your room now expecting to see them." I had assumed they'd post along with the stay ... if at all.

I was offered a choice of a free drink or the points. The clerk was very pointed in explaining that club access included free beer/wine, so the points would likely be a better value. I believe that as of March 1st, Platinums are to get both the points and a drink as per the official rules.

I am not totally surprised as IC's still typically run as a separate loyalty scheme depite the umbrella ihg-rewards branfing.

Well to my limited knowlege the start up in Jan 2014 of Points/Drinks Choice at checkin was for European hotels, although I had often got a free drink voucher on arrival at some hotels at least as long ago as Summer 2013.
Have seen a few FTers post similar in USA recently so maybe going worldwide, seems all my brands, HI, HIE, CP, INDIGO, but not IC brand. (Just the one Staybridge stay January, no hotel bar, I think I got 300 points slip but not sure)
Also reports that from (i think 1st March) will be choice of a)goody bag b)points voucher c)free drink , with Plats getting 2 from 3, and Golds 1 of 3 choice.
