It ends up being $0.00575 per point. It is even cheaper than the book+cancel trick. In my opinion, its only worthwhile if you go for the 26K+26K deal for $299 AND have an upcoming redemption you are planning. Hotel points and airmiles are simply not good investments. The value seem to drop every single year!

I don't believe that limit applies to points "purchased" through the points + cash method, though. (When you book with points + cash at IHG, you're essentially buying some of the points on the spot, and then making a behind-the-scenes all points booking. Then if you cancel that booking...)

Has anyone an idea these purchased points will be counted as Elite Qualifying Points ?
Would be nice to buy Platinum for my wife, too.
Last year it worked

No, they won't. They changed the terms in January. Discover America Daily point purchases, basically the same as this, didn't count so don't expect this to either.

Qs on IHG rate offers
Hello ,
First of all sorry if this is a repetitive qs . I have never stayed at ihg before nor have accumulated their points in the past. However im a Plat through their status matching program.
I am planning to stay at Pallazo for 1 night only on a Sunday in Sept. in my IHG acct, i have registered for several promos.
Qs
In general, are those promos only valid for at least 2 nights stay ?
And if i book through http://www.palazzo.com/Las-Vegas-Accommodations/
Will i be eligible to earn IHG points and the registered offers as well ? Or must i book through ihg.com to be eligible?
Thank you

Credit cards are the new Nirvana. Guaranteed Platinum status in the U.S., U.K., and Canada--for what it's worth .
Purchase of points using an IGH credit card adds to the bundle, thereby reducing the ACTUAL versus the NOMINAL cost of 5.75 cents per point.
But, as many have pointed out, due to the frequency of devaluations and the paucity of upscale IHG properties on Pointbreaks, carrying a large inventory of IHG points is risky.

I just spent over $1000 on a 3 night non-US IC stay and earned 4000 points! Sorry IHG, but until you fix this terribly unfair policy your rewards program sucks. Make the rest of the world earn at the same level as the north America. Correct this in-balance in your program!

i've been seriously considering moving our stays in PVG, we had a seven month stay last year, and earned just the standard plus accelerator per month, subsequent stays average three months at a time, and it's just not competitive with what the other groups offer, i look forward to IHG adopting a consistent policy worldwide

Yes, but last year was last year. Points purchased no longer count towards elite status.

"15. IHG® Rewards Club "Points & Cash" is an option for obtaining a Reward Night. You may choose to redeem IHG® Rewards Club points for a Reward Night in three ways: using your existing points for all required points for the desired Reward Night; using your existing points and 5,000 points purchased for US $40 to total the required points; or using your existing points and 10,000 points purchased for US $70 to total the required points. The total purchase on any single day may not exceed $280 US. Points & Cash Reward Nights may only be redeemed online at www.ihgrewardsclub.com. Point purchase amounts are subject to change by IHG® Rewards Club. You must use a valid credit card for points purchase. Upon completion of the points purchase, you agree that the total dollar amount will be immediately charged to the credit card you specified. The cost for the points purchased is non-refundable. If the Reward Night is cancelled in accordance with these Terms & Conditions and with each hotel's cancellation policy, the purchased IHG® Rewards Club points will be re-deposited into your IHG® Rewards Club account. Cash components of this award that are paid in currencies other than U.S. dollars will be adjusted by IHG® Rewards Club, as needed, to reflect the USD equivalent of the non-USD payment at that time. All other Reward Night terms and conditions apply. "
