IC Hong Kong (the former Regent), the Amstel in Amsterdam and the Al Bustan in Mascate are my favorites, with IC Singapore, IC Bangkok and IC Berchtesgaden running close. IC Zurich and IC The Grand, New Delhi are at the other end of the spectrum.

I have experienced:
- IC Amsterdam
- IC Athens
- IC Bangkok
- IC Berchtesgaden
- IC Berlin
- IC Budapest
- IC Cannes
- IC Cologne
- IC Frankfurt
- IC Garden Reef Sharm el Sheikh (no longer an IC)
- IC Geneva
- IC Hamburg
- IC Hong Kong
- IC London
- IC London Churchill (no longer an IC)
- IC Madrid
- IC Miami
- IC Muscat - Al Bustan
- IC New Delhi, The Grand
- IC Paris (no longer an IC)
- IC Paris Le Grand
- IC Rome
- IC San Francisco
- IC Singapore
- IC Stuttgart (no longer an IC)
- IC Vienna
- IC Warsaw
- IC Washington
- IC Zurich

Regarding the IC Miami, it's been some time. I remember a large, convention type hotel, located downtown, convenient for business, but not for leisure. Nothing really bad, nothing special.

Most of my great experiences at I-C's have been due more to the location rather than the hotel alone. That said, the new I-C Beijing in and of itself is fantastic. And the Le Grand in Paris. Club level is a requirement for a good I-C experience in most cases.

I guess the IC hotels in the Far East are far better than those located in other parts of the world... Or someone is a bit partial to that area of the world . I wonder...

Hmm, maybe. Now that you mention it ... Okay, generally service levels are better in Asia than in the US or Europe. However, one European property that I was impressed with is the IC Cologne so I nominate it for shared 3rd on my list together with the IC BKK. How about that one?

I've only stayed at a few Intercontinentals. By far the best was the Amstel in Amsterdam. No club level but nevertheless (and I've always wanted to say this on FT) absolutely fabulous. Oh, and dare I mention that mini bar yet again?

I'll probably have a late autumn/early winter break at the Le Grand.

Red face

The IC's I've stayed in over the past 12 months ranked

1 IC BoraBora - simply suberb. Perfect all round.
2 IC Sydney - excellent club lounge, great bedrooms
3 IC Warsaw - Modern stylish hotel, well located, great rooms
4 IC Athens - Wonderful huge rooms, with an excellent view
5 IC Tahiti - Large sprawling hotel with good service, nice rooms.
6 IC Budapest - Large rooms, excellent views over the Danube
8 IC Abu Dhabi - Slightly dated, but with excellent service and great dining choices.
7 IC Moorea - Wonderful hotel, pity about the poor service

Does anyone remember the Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan? It was the wonder of wonders in West Africa.

I remember it from when it had an ice-skating rink in the mall next door. It claimed, probably accurately, to be the only ice rink in Africa.
Recently, the French army used the balconies to take pot shots at the demonstrators outside, killing dozens of them.
Last I heard the hotel was still open, but a shadow of its former self, and the rink has been closed for years.

Post Favorite IC Hotels overseas?

Starting to plan for some international travel in 2010 and would like to get some input from the FT community on favorite IC hotels between the following locations: Bali, Fiji, Moorea, Bora Bora, Australia, Czech Republic, and Hungary.

What makes them a favorite IC hotel of yours?

Of the places you've listed, I've only stayed at the IC in Sydney. It's a great location and an interesting building (built using part of an old treasury structure, I believe). It's within walking distance of the ferry landing at Circular Quay, the Rocks, the Opera House and numerous other attractions. When I was there last I had a room with a spectacular view of the Harbour Bridge. It was my second visit there, and I wouldn't hesistate to stay there again.

I will be able to speak of Sydney after my stay end of December.
Czech Republic : very ugly 70s building, superb location, room recently renovated (some with very nice view), nice lounge and good service.

Hungary: ugly 70s building, superb location, lobby recently renovated, some suites very nice view (but a bit dated), nice lounge and good service.

Not the best IC properties in the world.
