HI Amsterdam (near Schiphol)

For amsterdam, cashing points in-25000 for the crown plaza isn't a bad thing- bang in the centre and plats get free club access even on reward stays, especially given the rates in amsterdam. But tried the HI as it was 2-4-1 rate, 80 euros a nite equivalent.
GREAT!!!!

2 stops by train from schipol, come out of RAI station and walk 100 meters to the right and you're there. Had to ask what deals for Plats-> upgraded to exec room -not bad, given 2-4-1. Looked at the restaurant- a little pricey, but classy: asked at reception: Plats get 25% off.

Getting into town is a dream- tram stop for line number 4 terminates/starts at the hotel!!! 2 euros into town and its a great journey 10-15 minutes.

Overall, as long as you're happy to tram it in/out (last tram home is 1220 in the a.m.) this place is ACE!!!!!!!!!

Anyone able to comment on the walking distance or taxi cost of HI Amsterdam from the City Centre?

I'm wondering whether it would be a decent enough place to stay in Amsterdam for New Years Eve as I've never stayed there before so I don't know how far away it is from the centre - and I doubt public transport will be running on the morning of Jan 1st (am I correct on this?)

HI AMS

hey- drdanielmacdonald here. YOU will not be able to walk home at all- it takes 15-20 mins by tram.
To email the tram comany (GVB) ten email here: customerservice@gvb.nl

It is tram number 4 to RAI, but usually the tram ends circa 1230 anyway.
Dont 4get that the CP AMS centre is gr8- with FAB plat upgrades even if u pay with 25000 points!!

There is a 2-4-1 rate on both these properties as well over the winter:

Enjoy!!

[would be interested what others can report about platinum upgrade successes here]

Checked in there for a 241 stay, was upgraded NOT to exec floor but just the priority club. When asking why I was 'upgraded' to what i should probably be getting anyhow was told "you booked a standard rooms, so you get the priority floor" and after asking again, I was told this would only apply to plat level.

there is also no 25% for platinum members in the restaurant, but a voucher for a drink at the bar.

breakfast is 22 euro but rather mediocre- looking good but if it comes to the etails it is not so great.

location was great for me because i had something at the RAI center to which it is next to, but very loud: you cannot stop the noise in the bathroom as the ventilation never shuts off. I had to change rooms to one where there is at least a bearable level of that noise.

Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, really good service there.

Anyone stayed at the CP Schiphol? Interested to know how often the shuttle runs to the airport.

I might have to stay in this hotel for 70 nights soon. Seems to be not too bad, and lots of points to gain at present. Is there any restaurants beside the hotel not requiring transport ?

I stayed there when it was brand new (about 1,5 years ago?) and back then at least there was nothing within walking distance of the hotel. Maybe they have been building like crazy since then, but I wouldn't count on it.

Edit to add: the old posts in this thread seem to mix most of the Amsterdam properties. My comment is about the HI near the airport, as stated in the title, and not about the one in Amsterdam near the RAI exhibition centre.

Yeh I'll be working out near the airport in a UPC office. I suspected as much, might need a rental car to get food in the evening time then if there is nothing about.

I think this thread was for the Holiday Inn, which is now no longer a Holiday Inn and went to a Hilton family chain I think. I stayed there the first day it changed brand, booked as HI, but honoured within the new Brand.
