Cheapest locations to fly into Europe
Hello!
I'm new to this site and I'm looking for wisdom from the community. I'm trying to set up alerts for cheap flights into Europe and the UK from Portland, OR. Can any of you suggest some cities that offer the best prices? Thank you!

mstellavato Welcome to FT
FT is not a travel agent nor has a secret sources of cheap fares
Look at google/flights, kayak, expedia and the like.
Will be better to start from SEA or LAX or Vancouver. Looking from Portland, Or will restrict your option a lot
Good luck with your search.

The discount transatlantic carriers right now are Norwegian, Icelandic, and Wow. Would look into their route maps and see where to position to from Portland.

It of course depends on your final destination in Europe, but my best guess (and it's only a guess) might be to fly discount carrier Allegiant (sp?) from Portland to Oakland, leave lots of time for a connection since you'd be on two separate tickets, and then Norwegian to Scandinavia. You could try kayak.com, googleflights.com and other search engines to check out this and other possibilities.
Hope this helps!

If the goal is the cheapest possible fare then the advice above about the low cost carriers is dead on. You aren't likely to find a cheaper fare.
If you are looking to fly US carriers - then look at cities ither than PDX for departures. Some EU airports are routinely cheaper than others - like DUB. Sometimes going into a EU hub city will cost more than adding an additional cinnecting flight and going on to another city.

Typically, Dublin is one of the cheapest. But otherwise it's pretty random. Things like seasonality play a huge role. There are websites that provide cheap fares every day you can follow, in addition to the Mileage Run deals forum,

Sadly, these days cities hit by terrorism (or thought likely to be) are pretty cheap.
Check Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam against historic fares to see that.

Google flights. Enter your starting point then click "Places" under the blue thin bar and then select Europe. Enter your travel dates. Then click on the map. Once that is open in the upper left hand corner, you can use the sliding bar for Price and see what cities you can get to within your budget.
