Emirates air miles

Hi all,

Have two upcoming flights with Emirates, I've never used it before and I don't think I will fly with them more often in the future. I live in the US NYC area, and so miles applicable to to the US/EU/Asia will be more useful for me. For this reason I am trying to figure out whether I should collect the miles towards Emirates itself, or either to Alaska Air or JetBlue since they are US-based. Any recommendations?

THANK YOU!

So after I have been away from this Forum a while, and less flying because of ... things .. I am back. Still not flying as much as I want to but still want a good FFP

Here the Wikipost Questions with my Answers:

1. What is most important to you in a frequent flyer program (FFP)?

"Easy" obtainable Status would be sweet, more baggage for carry on would help on my shorter flights, faster Boarding

Oh, less restriction on booking classes is, after the last few flights not being acrueable to A3, very important

2. How many miles do you usually fly each year? How many flights/sectors?
It varies greatly sadly. This year I am just below 20 000 miles, with a lot of them not acrueable

3. What fare class do you usually buy?

Economy.

4. Are you able to choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?

I think I am not limited in chosing Airlines. ATM I only fly for leisure.

5. Which routes do you fly most often

Within Europe

6. What is your home airport?

VIE

7. Do you have status in any FFP? What is it? How miles do you have banked in a FFP, if any?

A3 (miles and Bonus) blue (which seems to be silver in other *A)
Miles 10403 (missing 9597 for Gold and I probably wont make that till last of November )

Miles and More, no Status 1752 Award miles, 125 Status miles

topbonus (air Berlin) 2900 Award miles

8. What are your preferred airlines, if any?

For Long Haul I only know SQ and I love it.
Short distance I know more. I prefer LH and LX over OS. But apart from that I have no prefferences

Since you don't fly/spend enough to get status on the biggies, I suggest Alaska, as you can credit AF, BA, DL, and KL to that program.
Alaska also has very good award redemptions.

United also has a spend requirement (PQD) and wants you to book flights on their stock.
Don't know about American and their TPAC routes.
Have you considered an Asian program? Asiana or Korean perhaps?

Hi all,
I'm really trying to figure out with all of the changes for 2015 if I want to stay with United, or move to another program. I've typically been thinking about either AA or AS. Majority of my flying is domestically in the US, but I do 2-3 trips to Asia each year as well. Any feedback is appreciated.

1. What is most important to you in a frequent flyer program (FFP)?

Reward availability, upgrades, lounge access domestically, mileage bonus

2. How many miles do you usually fly each year? How many flights/sectors?

Typically 70 - 100k miles depending on the year.

3. What fare class do you usually buy?

INTL - Business
Domestic - Economy

4. Are you able to choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?

Can choose airline, don't get to choose class its always business internationally and economy domestically. Travel for work (70%) and pleasure (30%).

5. Which routes do you fly most often

LAX - DTW
LAX - GSO
LAX - ORD
LAX - HKG

6. What is your home airport?

LAX

7. Do you have status in any FFP? What is it? How miles do you have banked in a FFP, if any?

UA Platinum (250k miles)
AA (20k miles)
AS (30k miles)

8. What are your preferred airlines, if any?

Long Haul - CX & SQ
Domestic - Have only flown UA/CO for the past 5+ years

Considering your home base, your preference for CX to Asia and your high mileage trips, I suggest AA. At least they have no minimum spend requirements yet. Ask for a status match and show your UA Plat credentials.

As a USA resident you are better in a USA airline ffp:- AA or AS or UA
Easy to get miles from non flying activites to keep the account alive
AS has a wide range of partners airlines http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mil...-overview.aspx

Reply:
No status anywhere but I have some miles with UA, AA, VA, JetBlue. Should not be a consideration.

8. What are your preferred airlines, if any?

I really enjoyed my flights on JetBlue or Virgin but am open.

I am also open to getting a credit card if it makes sense. I have an american express PRG card that I use to book generally.
