Multiple Entry on Tourist Visa
I plan to fly into Mumbai; stay there for 4 days; then go to Sri Lanka for a quick vacation, then come back in Mumbai; stay there for 2 more days, and then fly back to the US. Have family in India, so need to stop there both ways. Question is - what kind of permit do I need? The Indian visa page is kind of complex - it talks about permit NOT required if traveling to multiple countries on same itinerary and to show the proof of ticketing to be shown to immigration officer at POE. Then right below - it talks about requiring special approval to renter within two months.
Any thoughts? Have you done something similar? I am a US passport holder,
Thanks,
D

I had a single entry tourist visa, went to India, went to Thailand, returned to India, no problems.
I did have to explain to the immigration officer on the second entry, but as soon as I said the magic words "neighbouring country" he got it. They don't seem to have a strict definition of neighbouring country.
