Kolkata New Terminal

Is there any news when this terminal is expected to open for international operations?

Dragonair has stated they will start flights to/from Hong Kong but only after the new terminal opens.

The last I heard was around 10/2012, which probably translates into 2013!

It is ominous that KA/CX have not loaded the new flights into their res system

I flew through CCU this morning. Work is happening, but I can't imagine it being ready in 4 months.

Next year seems likely.

Then again, I thought the Commonwealth Games would be cancelled too....

meh, that thread is an eyesore... copy pasting a telegraph article that clearly shows the journalist has no clue doesn't help either... every project has a clear plan and you know if something will get delayed if certain steps are not done by a certain date.

There seems to be a lot of buzz that the terminal will be ready in September or October for first scheduled flights.

Dragonair's first flight from Hong Kong is scheduled to arrive on 2nd November. I wonder if it will be at the new terminal or old one. Or, possibly it will be also the inaugural flight for the new terminal?

Is it realistic?

Work on the 30-month Kolkata airport upgrade project began in January 2009 and was to be completed by June 2012 but was deferred first to August, then October, December and now January 2013. Many are apprehensive that while a formal inauguration may be done, full-fledged operations at the new terminal may be held up even longer with all airlines shifting to the new facility only by mid-2013. What has lent credence to the fears is the AAI's failure to conduct departure trials till date. Customs and Immigration departments have also not handled a live flight at the new terminal.

So the new terminal was inaugurated Jan 20 but was only supposed to start on Jan 23 (NSCBs birthday). The pictures looked impressive, has anyone seen the inside of the new terminal yet?

It was initially supposed to start international operations on 23rd Jan..
My mom and relatives took an intl flight on 26th Jan ' 13 and returned on 3rd Feb'13.. Both from the old airport..

BTW.. dragon air has already started CCU - HKG fights since Oct/Nov'12.. I guess they did not want to wait till eternity for the new terminal ops to start

On Jan 20 I was strolling about the domestic terminal killing time and saw that the new terminal seems to be connected in some way on the airside upper level.

Is it ? since both the terminals are at a distance though not very far.. But why this connection ? are they proposing to use the domestic terminal even after the new terminal is fully operational ?
