Taj Mahal Tour Help

Hello-
I am traveling India alone, and my driver will drop me off at Taj this Saturday. Is it easy to hire a guide at Taj? Whats the right price to pay? Do I have to hire a photographer to take a photo in front of Taj or can my guide take a photo of me? Any tip on the best way to tour Taj would be greatly appreciated!!

When you get to the Taj there will be dozens of locals who will offer you their "guide" services. Choose someone who is a little put together and bargain with him. I don't remember how much I paid but it was not much. The guide will likely bring his "friend" at some point to try and sell you photography services and they will print the pictures within 30 minutes. You can also just ask your guide to take your picture if you have a camera.

You can ask the guys at the ASI (archaeological society of india) ticket counter, where you buy tickets for entry, for your handycam etc, to let you have a guide. There are licensed guides available who will speak reasonable english and won't rip you off too much.

Getting a random guy hanging around as a guide makes it inevitable that you'll get heavily ripped off, steered to his friend's handicrafts shop etc.
