To be fair, airliners also have to be sensible about this and work with the airport authorities.
I would say a 12 hour shut down is very fair...5pm-5am.
If people can't/don't want to get on flights before 5pm, tough luck then. Hire a taxi and drive back to delhi by road. It's only 5 hours.

That's a total disaster. Do the military really need that long to upgrade/repair the runway? Does not sound like a very productive system of upgrading to me if they can't finish the runway in less than 6 months working at least 9 hours a day.

This is more about delhi airport than military. They are using lobbying to kill the chandigarh airport it's been going on for a long time. They know if Chandigarh airport reached its potential it would mean huge losses to delhi airport. Who from Punjab/Himachal/Haryana would fly to Delhi if you could take Emirates/Qatar/Turkish/Etihad straight into Chandigarh? Airlines have no rights here they are at the behest of the authorities.

So the news about IXC runway maintenance and Sunday closures are in multiple media outlets, but airlines continue to sell tickets on sunday flights. At what point they update their schedule - I have flight in on a Sunday and would like to re-book as early to avoid last minute rush.
