Tatas and SIA in JV for full service airlines in India??

Read this article on Reuters on a possible JV between Tatas and SIA for a full service airlines in India.

Interesting? This is good news. I was disappointed with Air Asia India's 'focus south' policy. This will be much needed competition to 9W, IF it happens!

What on earth?

If true, and if it does happen, then Fibga and Taxpayer beware.

Oh and what's the chance of them flying the plane from BOM to DEL as TataAirAsia and then bringing it back as TataSQ (ceteris paribus, except the fare) ?

It is a 100MM$ investment for now. Not a whole of money to launch an airline... perhaps a few leased jets at best....

I love how 'experts' deconstruct themselves within a few sentences:

“I don’t understand the logic of working with two airlines simultaneously,” said aerospace journalist Hormuz P. Mama. “It seems peculiar to work with AirAsia and Singapore Airlines as both will compete each other irrespective of low-fare and full-service business models.”
But Mama said India does need a large airline to compete with big international airlines such as Emirates and Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
Consulting firm Capa Centre for Aviation, too, said India needs strong, well-capitalized airlines run by companies with proven credentials.
“Tata-Singapore Airlines venture was long overdue, should have started 15 years back. Capa believes approval of foreign airlines to invest in India was a game-changing decision,” Kapil Kaul, chief executive officer (South Asia) at Capa, said. He cautioned that regulatory and policy uncertainty still dog the aviation sector.
“We have no clarity on the issue of new airline licences. Overall, government policies have always raised entry risks for serious players,” Kaul said. “We operate in a policy and regulatory vacuum. However, Tatas may have discussed this project at the highest levels in the government.”

So the Tatas will finally come back into the Indian skies.

But the more important question - which alliance will it join?

Yup.

And now one of AI's top management has gone on record (moneycontrol.com), saying that AI should be handed back to the Tatas!

Ha ha - like anyone would want to touch AI now?

Better the government keep all the liabilities and hand over only the slots/name over to Tata - that's the only thing that would work...

I think GoI should give back AI minus liabilities to Tata and let SQ invest 49% in it.

Nice idea: like the bad bank/GM concept: park all the undesirable stuff in a empty shell without purpose and privatise the rest. Ähh... keep dreaming.
