Tried it 6 months back and as per ITA EY flight had YQ on it but EK did not. Got quotes on both and went with EK as no YQ even though I prefer EY.

It seems EK fares in ITA now reflect the YQ .. sample from ITA for EK..

Fare 1: Carrier EK U1HESRU1 MOW to DXB (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code U
Covers DME-DXB (Economy)
16,917.00
Fare 2: Carrier EK U1HESRU1 DXB to MOW (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code U
Covers DXB-DME (Economy)
9,342.00
Russian Int'l Terminal Use Charge (RI) 347.00
Russian Security Charge (UH) 252.00
United Arab Emirates International Advanced Passenger Information (API) Fee (ZR) 55.00
(YQ) 12,322.00
Russian Int'l Terminal Use Charge (RI) 336.00
United Arab Emirates Passenger Service Charge (AE) 818.00
United Arab Emirates Security and Safety Fee (TP) 55.00

Subtotal per passenger 40,445.00
Number of passengers x1

TOTAL AIRFARE & TAXES 40,445.00

So assuming we get EK flights now, still Jet would insist on YQ being paid it seems even for EK..

Yep. But EK is funny as they charge YQ on only certain regions or at least they did when I last ticketed with them.

EK's YQ charges are quite steep on award tickets. I recently tried to make use of about 65K miles that were due to expire. Redeeming on a return-Y ticket from India - Europe would cost Rs.27K in surcharges and taxes. This is way too expensive than other carriers. Besides, saver awards are very hard to find even if you are willing to book a year ahead. Only two years ago (before their partnership with QF which spoiled Skywards program), I had redeemed on India-Brazil sector right during Carnival season. At that time, fee I paid was about Rs.4.5K! Go figure..

I do not think EK will let partners to pay any less than what they themselves are charging.

Thanks for the detailed info..So seems EY would be the way to go considering they got the preferred dates and times I wanted..

Managed to get Moscow - Abu Dhabi for 31st Dec - 7th Jan .. all airlines from Moscow at peak fares for these sectors because of the long holidays..
