Did AI get the cash from the markets to pay for the 787 deliveries?

Meanwhile, negotiations are on with Boeing for compensation on the almost three-year delay in delivery. Our revenue loss estimates for the delay in delivery of 737s is about Rs 6,000 crore and stiff negotiations are on.

Chances are that the Boeing 787 will never see service with Air India.

The secondary market is already making quiet enquiries about re-marketing these airframes to alternate customers.

Revenue loss was about $1.4 billion if that figure is to be believed. What would the profit loss have been?

An airline that cannot even pay their employees will not be able to afford these new planes, unless the almighty creates a miracle. It is a good excuse to blame losses on utilization of current long haul fleet for short haul jaunts but no mention of mismanagement and corruption.

dont know what happened to the negotiations but this was less than a month ago and unlikely that the loan has already been finalised - loan is for approx $835 mill / 12 years or so

"Air India has invited bids for the delivery financing and hopes to secure US Exim Bank guarantee for the funding. It has placed an order of 27 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and expects to receive seven planes of this type by March 2012.

"We have approached the US Exim Bank for its approval. The loan will have a government guarantee. We hope to secure an interest rate of 50-70 basis points over Libor. This amounts to little over one percent,'' said a senior AI executive."

Profit loss? You mean loss savings!

Given AI's history, they might be better off with not having any operations or revenue!

Delay or no delay, with a Govt. guaranteed loan and so much money being pumped in by the Indian Govt. they are just gonna get the burden of the 787 costs on their heads for sure.

The Star Alliance fiasco is something AI will not forget for times to come.

I would rather see those 787s in IT colors instead. AI probably never see them anyway.
