Question Iberia web site does not allow seat selection

I booked a flight on Iberia on the web. However, at ticket purchase time, it did not offer seat selection. Then, as suggested in this thread, I went back to use the booking management button to do seat selection. It finds my booking, just fine, but when I click on seat selection, it says:

We are sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused you.
Requests made on flights operated by other airlines must be confirmed by the individual operators.

The problem is that all my flights are regular Iberia flights (not code-shares, not Vueling - just regular Iberia). The fare code is Q, and my frequent flyer number is American Airlines and is in the record and I'm OneWorld Sapphire.

I'm about to call them on the phone to try and fix this, but I suspect that the phone agent will only let me pick aisle/middle/window, rather than actually pick a seat number. (I'm trying for the exit row.) What are the Iberia rules about reserving exit rows if you are OneWorld Sapphire?

Also, the flight includes both legs from NY to Madrid, as well as internal flights. Does that make a difference?

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Do you have more passengers in the same booking? To use the online seat feature all passengers must have an FF# recorded.

It's not a problem to call IB and ask for seats, but normally they need all pasengers enroled into a OW FF program to assign seats, no problem for exit rows.

There are no other passengers. Just myself, and the OneWorld FF# is definitely recorded.

Could it be a problem using Firefox? Do they require Internet Explorer as a web browser? (ie: Do they insist on using ActiveX technology?)

The Iberia website describes the planes as 342 and 345 right now. I assume that the 345 is the 600 with the reconfigured business class. What about the designation 342?

IB Seat Availability Chart?

I'm looking to book an IB flight, and was hoping to view available seats before committing to a flight. On most airlines, prospective flight seat availability can be viewed early in the process. I can't seem to do that on the IB site. Any suggestions?

Dan

I'm looking for IB 2674 from ORD-MAD on 21 Oct 2010. I know it is a 346, but was looking for a business class seat availability seating chart. Can this be determined on the IB site (or some other site) before final purchase?

There you go:

[KVS Availability Tool 5.4.1/Diamond - Amadeus Seat Map: 21 Oct 2010/IB 6274/ORD-MAD/346/C-Business]
Code:

When I look at the seating chart in answer #23 on this thread, it shows 7 rows of seats in the diagram. Is this the new configuration with the flat bed seats ? Also, why are the two middle seats (D,H) considered better? Just because they are both aisle seats, with no one climbing over to get up, or is there some other reason?

You should be able to reserve your seat by calling American Airlines:

Thanks for your post KVS!

I'm trying to view a seatmap for an upcoming flight on my smartphone and I'm disappointed to find out that checkmytrip doesn't display one (I see the seatchart when viewing checkmytrip on my laptop but I can't manage to find where you view it on a phone) - and I don't see a seatmap on IB's site either.

I just clicked on your site, but I admit I'm overwhelmed...

Could you possibly point me in the right direction so I can learn how to view an IB seatmap for a specific flight? (And do you have a version formatted for phones?)
