I've never seen that happen on any IB flight.

I paid at the ticket desk to upgrade from a V fare to an I fare outbound (already booked inbound in I) at a cost of around 1000 USD on a sector. No availability on the short haul flight to MAD and then the ground staff did not alter my boarding pass. The cabin crew would not seat me in business. Only seven applications to the refund service later, and I still have nothing.... not even the miles to show for it!
I am a regular user of IB for UK to South America and I am oneworld Emerald. I have never been upgraded from Y.

Just tried to upgd me and future wife on MAD-IAD & BOS-MAD by getting to the captain (have a friend in IB).

Been told both ways that : No way since Jan to do any kind of upgd withouth formal prior approval from the G-D-stratosphere level to stop IB's own employees abuses.

Well, I paid cheap and flew cheaply

I see that you are online, and I was wondering if anything has changed on the "100% No" for cash upgrades on Iberia. I am particularly interested in the JFK-MAD route

Not as far as I know. Only way to upgrade is paying the fare difference to Business Class. And I think it's fair.

Heramato, thanks for your quick reply. Can you tell me how the economy cabin & seats are on Iberia's A340-600? I'm flying a pretty long itinerary, SFO-JFK-MAD-PNA.

IB 346 doesn't look tired yet as it's the latest plane on IB's fleet. Seats are 31 inch in Y with adjustable headwings. No personal screens.
Here you have a TR where you can see some pics (MAD-JFK leg)
