Question about award tix baggage (J & Y)
Hi,
I am looking to book JFK-MAD-CDG and BCN-MAD-JFK with IB Avios. The online award tool lets me choose which legs I want in Y and which in J. My theory is that the MAD-CDG and BCN-MAD flights are pointless in J so I may as well save that few thousand miles.
Do you know if there's likely to be a problem on the BCN-MAD-JFK flight if having a Y BCN-MAD ticket? Can we check in at J counter and have any lounge privileges in BCN ?
Thanks

Check in J counter probably but not lounge access in BCN according to my experience(January 2014).

When booking awards I always book the long hauls in Biz but feeder flights in Y.
BCN airport is OK and you can get a coffee and a pastry for 3e so not big deal the lounge.
