Zilara/Ziva Cap Cana Dominican Republic REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

FInally... it's been mentioned a couple of times, ever since Hyatt took over certain Barceló and Playa Hotels, now it's announced.
http://www.travelagewest.com/News/Pl.../#.WZE7BFGg8-U

unfortunately without opening date yet... but based on below article, the site has just been acquired. And due to experiences with late openings of Baha Mar, St. Kitts, etc... my prediction is an earliest 2022 opening...

Why DR? They should be building in high end Caribbean islands instead of low end places like Jamaica and DR.

glad about DR. Main thing is they expand their footprint in the "full beach" resort market in the Caribbean (or anywhere actually).

Agreed with 59Impala - anywhere they can build these (in a location with a good beach) works for me. Easier/cheaper to get to the better! Personally I find Ziva/Zilara to be a great use of points.

do they build their zilara and zivas right next to each other? So even if you go for the Adults only resort, there will be tons of kids right down the beach?

I presume yes, looking at the rendering. Similar to Zilara/Ziva Rosehall. At least there will be a kids-free pool.

However... we'll be at the Zilara Cancun in January... and the foam pool parties there worry me a bit... they could shift that to the Ziva...

Quite benign, at least while I was there. The pool is pretty long so you could easily be a little more insulated.

Just read this:

http://markets.businessinsider.com/n...ana-1002650416

seems to be pretty close to the new Ziva/Zilara resorts, managed by Playa Hotels, and flagged as a "Sanctuary Hotel", so not to be confused with the Ziva/Zilara in the Hyatt portfolio?

Looks like a more upscale version of Zilara. I wish this were under Hyatt as well.

The Sanctuary Cap Cana marks the first new brand addition since Playa became a public company in March of this year, as it joins Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara and Panama Jack Resorts under the management of Playa Hotels and Resorts. "We continue to execute our strategic plan ..."

Apparently, their "strategic plan" is to confuse the hell out of consumers. It takes a scorecard to keep track of all the brands in that one sentence.

bolding by me... agree, confusing. To add even more to the confusion, Playa Hotel and Resorts has another all inclusive hotel complex more or less right beside the Ziva/Zilara... it is indeed confusing who actually does what....

https://sanctuarycapcana.com/?_ga=2....328.1512147186

this is NOT the ZIVA/ZILARA to my knowledge, as the Ziva/Zilara is a 750 room resort, while this one has "just" 184..

45%!? You need to book 8+ months in advance to get a pretty standard offer from Zilara.

Availability is very poor. Saw rates like $441 to $550 standard room rate. This is the final rate, I figure after the 45% discount. No redemption rate available now. Probably 25,000/night.
