This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Agreed, it is a bit cheesy. Although very easy to ignore based on the rest of the package.

Grand Hyatt Istanbul, 3 nights, April
Pro-actively upgraded to a nice suite (sitting room with dining table, separate bedroom, WIC, 1.5 baths). First stay in about 4 or 5 years; nice property: quietly elegant, good lounge, great location).

Globalist.

Hyatt on the Bund, 3 night stay, "upgraded" to the club floor (sigh, why bother). It's just a floor that gives access to the club which is not on this floor, which I already have access to as a Globalist.

Bund River View suites available for booking, don't know how these are different from Bund View suites which are one grade lower and not available over my stay.

Simply Say: I found XX room available on the Hyatt App, please put me in X room.

Grand Hyatt Melbourne - Booked King Room, received King Deluxe Room (corner room on high floor). No suites available on the website, so this was the best room available.

Hyatt Regency Sydney - Booked King Room, received Harbour View Balcony Suite. Pro-actively offered with no request required. Great view too.

Orlando Airport for one night on Saturday April 22nd. Booked a two bed room for myself and my family, and that's exactly what I got. Deluxe rooms were available, as were runway rooms, but all I got was a view of the parking lot. Not worth haggling, just needed sleep to catch an early morning flight.

GOH staying 3 night award stay at PH NY.

At check in, was given a Deluxe room (upgrade). Asked for suite upgrade given GOH benefits, and she offered me a Park Studio Suite on 8th floor. I asked if it would be noisy given the low floor, and she said it might be, and after a few seconds of looking, assigned me a Park Suite on the 14th floor. Same room as my last stay, and enjoyed it just as much. The hard product at this hotel is stupendous, and soft product has gotten significantly better over the years, IMO.

Park Hyatt Vienna, 3 nights April ( C&P stay)
Proactively upgraded to Park Suite. This is my 3rd or 4th stay ( 4th, I think) and each time there has been a significant upgrade without asking ( The Park Suite is super for a solo stay but would be great for a couple as well). Really charming in every respect.

Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen: booked a standard room on points, hotel was close to sold out for the Easter weekend (only a few garden view rooms and the presidential suite were available to book). Completely surprised when they proactively upgraded us into a Grand Suite.

Hyatt Regency Mexico City: booked a standard room on P&C and was upgraded to a club room. The base Regency Suite wasn't available to book; when asked about a suite upgrade, they offered an Executive Suite for a $100 upcharge (we took it).

Grand Hyatt Shanghai, actually I don't know exactly what the situation is.

I think I got upgraded to a room with a king bed, no view. From a room with a queen bed, no view.

At least I didn't get the same room on the club floor. So a bed upgrade I guess? Website is down so I can't check to see what the difference is.

Hotel is sold out (I seem to have bad timing) so no harm done.

I'm running 1 for 5 on the on demand upgrade to suites.

HR Waikiki on Pts/Cat1-7 free night

Checked in and was told City View room (base category). I had been tracking availability for several days and knew they had better rooms. Inquired and was told nothing was available for an Ocean Front/View. Showed her the app with both room types available for my length of stay (2 nights). Said she didn't know where they were getting that availability. 10 minutes of key clicking and suddenly I was in a previously non-existent Ocean Front on the 10th floor (not the best height, but OK for 2 nights).

I really hate having to haggle to get what is deserved under the program (and not even a suite as I knew those weren't for sale, just a better view room). Don't the hotels understand that people can check in real time for availability to call their bluff? Hotel was very proactive in reaching out via email prior to the stay (2 different managers), so it is odd that they failed so miserably at blocking an upgrade.

GM/Area VP emailed during stay and I let him know what happened. I don't expect anything from that (though I did get a reply), but it would be nice if they do better for others in the future.

HR Albuquerque

I booked standard king room and got a "Presidential Suite" on the second floor when I checked in. She said the hotel was sold out so they put me in that one. Living room area is nice, but the bedroom and bathroom are small and plain. Room also sits directly above the restaurant and bar, so there's noise until midnight.

I was upgraded on a previous stay to a much nicer suite on the uppermost floor. Not sure what that one was called.

I would've preferred a standard room on a higher floor in hindsight, but the upgrade was appreciated.
