World of Hyatt - Globalist Experiences [Best Room Available incl. Standard Suites]

Old Mar 2, 2017, 12:15 am
FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: 59Impala
This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Just checked in to the HR Mainz.... very nice upgrade to a corner room with a Rhine view.
No suites available for sale so a great application of the best room upgrade.

I am just buring my hyatt points now. I got matched (challenged actually) to Hilton Diamond last month and I have found them to be pretty generous with upgrades (although I have only been in Europe so far). Having said that I really do miss the opportunity for confirmed upgrades and Hyatt's hard product does seem far superior to Hilton (IMO).
How many nights?

The reason I ask is that I believe properties are making it almost impossible for long stays with TSU/GSUs.

Checked into HR LAX, can confirm they are placed correctly on the wiki list above as 'Better Room Not Proactively Offered But Was Available After Prodding'

Used my free cat 1-4 night and was placed in a King on the 10th floor, but after asking and noting my flexibility to wait if one was not yet ready, they found a junior suite on one of the top floors.

You really think having to ask for a suite upgrade is the best domestic treatment of globalists?

Three nights (my wife made the call on my behalf -- she can be very persuasive)

I think the proactive phone call from the Director of Rooms, the suite upgrade provided upon request, and the food and beverage amenity collectively exceed any Diamond/Globalist check-in treatment I've received recently at any other domestic GH. YMMV

Mods: please add GH DFW to the "Better Room Not Proactively Offered But Was Available After Prodding" list in the Wiki.

While this appears to be the norm, it is also the norm with SPG when not applying SNAs.

If it's a hotel you frequent, you'll probably be pre-assigned a suite, but more often than not I have to pull out the phone, call them out and sometimes even get the SPG Platinum Concierge to intervene but I believe they've stopped calling front desks now.

Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile - upgraded to King Executive Suite, but told that room would not be ready until 5pm. This is all too common at Hyatts, they upgrade you to one particular room and don't have good training or process on how to move you if that room has a late check out request. After expressing my displeasure the front desk moved the room to a lower floor and non-corner room that still wasn't ready by 3pm. Front desk said they would text me when ready but of course no text.

Staff was very defensive and blames it on Globalists with late check out instread of their own failings. They called later to check and claimed that they texted. Until the end they kept blaming other factors. She offered to note my account that in the future they would ignore an upgraded if the exact upgraded room I am supposed to get wasn't ready - ...! It wasn't that hard to find another decent room to move me into.

It's strange I never have this problem at Marriotts or SPG properties with upgrades and guaranteed check in time.

The GM did email me before and I did tell him it was my bday - they said happy birthday at the desk, but nothing else special done. Expected with Hyatt cost cutting but another missed opportunity. Last year I stayed at the IC in Chicago and they sent up a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a nice card (all without prompting). And I wasn't even a royal ambassador.

At the PH Chicago now for a Memorial Weekend stay. On check in Friday, was welcomed as a Globalist and told I was assigned a nice double (king) bed on the 15th floor with a lake view. I asked about any suites and she replied that as a Glob, I am entitled to a suite upgrade to the Park Suite, but it wasn't available on Friday but if I wanted to move for the rest of the stay I could. We just decided to stay in the lake view room assigned since the view was really wonderful and my wife and daughter enjoyed it.
It's great that the front desk acknowledged Globs are "entitled" to a suite upgrade if available. Also of note, I was on a full points stay (she also mentioned that valet parking was complimentary because of the points stay). So it looks like they are not trying to weasel out of the benefits. Complimentary room service breakfast is also included for Globs (just add the $6 delivery fee which I can live with). We also got a bottle of wine which I wasn't expecting as we are no longer supposed to get any amenities as Globalists.

Seattle

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt and the Olive 8 last week.

GH upgraded to corner suite without asking, on the 'back' side of the building (view of construction, basically), but still a nice room.

O8 basically gave me nothing (breakfast I suppose?) even though suites/corner rooms were available on the website for my stay. A 'quiet' basic room, that looked into another building and a construction site. Didn't ask for an upgrade.

Good luck everyone.

Of course it is.... there are only 2 guarantees, basic rooms on points and TSU when available. The rest is optional.
