This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

I've created a WiKi for people to populate where they have been given the standard suite by the property rather than having to ask.

It would also be helpful to know the length of stay for which a suite was received at check-in. I suspect that many properties might be willing to part with a suite for one night but hesitant to grant it for multiple nights when it might possibly be booked for revenue. It would be great if I'm proven wrong.

The 3 nights at PH Tokyo seems like a good sign.

And include a date when it was offered.... I have a suspicion that some/most properties are on their best behavior at the start of WOH.

However, the WOH rules don't specify that the hotel can withhold an available standard suite just because a longer reservation has been booked. If it's available for the length of stay, it should be freely given regardless of whether the booking is for one night or ten.

And that is what this thread intends to show..... which properties follow the rule as intended or which use their discretion as is stated in the T&C's: The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay.

So yes, the rules would allow a property to do exactly that, withhold a suite at it's discretion for whatever reason they deem fit. That's why having an updated wiki is valuable, even if the "vary from stay-to-stay" part would never mean it's guaranteed.

There seems to be legitimate tension between a free suite upgrade to a globalist and loss of revenue to the hotel owner as the length of stay increases. On a one-night stay, you would hope that the hotel would give the suite to the globalist rather than exercise its discretion to leave the suite unoccupied for the night. However, the prospect of giving that suite to the globalist at check-in for a one-week stay is dicier as the hotel owner may rationally feel he is losing the opportunity to sell that suite to late-booking customers.

I wonder how SPG properties handle this tension on a week stay where the SPG suite upgrade terms are stronger in the customer's benefit? I suspect the hotel owner would game it a bit to use up all the suite upgrades on shorter stays.

If in practice hotel owners are extending every eligible & available suite to globalists on short stays and declining to do so on longer stays, that will be fine by me as I would use a DSU for longer stays anyway. This would represent a real benefit to me under WOH to have a reasonable shot at a suite on short stays where I wouldn't burn a DSU.

They are not required to give you a suite, so this is a complete non-sequitur.

I'm pissed all of my room were not immediately upgraded to the presidential suites at all my bookings through March and April. I'm a globalist member. I stay frequently. I'm entitled to not one but 7 unrolled red carpets.

#hyattsucks

Transitioning all my stays to Redroof Inn.

There are a lot of things in this world that we may feel entitled to but do not necessarily receive. Fo those of us who understand that there are a lot of grey areas in life (and moreso when it comes to WoH), information can be useful, not proof of future performance, but nevertheless useful.

Let's say for argument sake that a hotel has one suite.

Arrivals/bookings:

Day 1: Glob A with a seven day reservation, glob B with a one day reservation
Day 2: Glob C with a one day reservation
Day 3: Glob D with a one day reservation
Day 4: Glob E with a one day reservation
Day 5: Glob F with a one day reservation
Day 6: Glob G with a one day reservation

Who should get the suite upgrade - Glob A or Globs B-G?

That's simple.

Glob B get's it on Day 1, then hotel can legitimaly tell Glob A that it is unavailable and they can hope for a revenue booking on Day 2. Then Globs C-G get the suite on each day if there has been no revenue booking.

The real question is what the hotel does when there is no Glob B.

I would say B-G, because you get to make 6 people happy about the program rather than one person extremely happy. This is assuming that all have confirmed reservations and there is only 1 suite to go around. What do you do when Glob D-G don't make their reservations until Day 2?
