That right there is bs. Had many a stay with DSUs applied to all but the last one or two nights because they were awards and not once has a hotel asked me to move. I have never insisted, but they always offered.

I pressed the agent about this - since as you noted in the past we've been able to use DSUs on split stays. But she insisted this is new WoH "policy" and directed me to the T+C where it says "Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards are redeemable only where the designated suite to be reserved is available for the entire length of the Member’s stay." as well as "Not valid in connection with any Free Night Award other than those identified above, including, without limitation, Hyatt Credit Card premium and anniversary Free Night Awards, 5-brand Free Night Awards, Category 1-7 Free Night Awards (defined below), or any other promotional Free Night Award."

I'm just miffed that the initial email contact was vague about the issue, and then to "resolve" the issue they wouldn't allow the suite upgrade at all. <SHRUG>

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have an open email to the hotel so we'll see what happens, fingers crossed.

The T&C certainly do state that, and it is another major downgrade in WoH.

I have a 6-night cash rate stay at PH Tokyo next week with a TSU applied, and I tacked on one night using the Free Night Award, realizing that we might have to move for that one night, but this would certainly be the best value for using that award.

Haven't heard anything about it from either the hotel or WoH, but I will be seriously upset if there is a problem at checkin.

Agreed. I have a similar reservation where to be thoughtful I put the free night cert on the front and applied a TSU to a multi-day points booking in the end. Am planning on changing rooms after the first day. If I'm told the TSU is invalid, I'll be very disappointed in the lack of notice.

So it seems that you now need to make the booking, apply the TSU and then add the nights you also want.... what a lousy way to operate.

I wonder when some property will decide not to allow that type of circumvention of the rules?

At every turn it seems that the various new policies in WoH have been specifically designed to aggravate and alienate

With this new policy of having to have the TSU applied for the entire stay, what happens when you have a stay of longer than a week and only one TSU available? I guess you're out of luck on applying the TSU.

I was hoping to book 10 nights at a property for next Feb, but it looks like if I want a suite for a week I'll have to go somewhere else for the other 3 nights

Yeah, what a sneaky change. It definitely devalues the DSUs.

I just tried to use a DSU for another stay in Tokyo in July, and am unable to even get more than 3 nights in a row. I can get 3 nights and use a DSU, check-out and have my wife check-in under her name for one day, and then, check back in and apply another DSU for another 3 nights. What a pile of unko!

I can already tell that I am going to have 4 DSUs expire worthless this year.

This has nothing to do with this thread. I suspect you're trying to book the PH and it is widely known being able to confirm a TSU here is extremely difficult.

We planned out entire trip to Japan around its availability.

PHV - Park King Suite

I had 4 nights at PHV, 3 on points and 4th with the Globalist free night cert. I was able to use TSU for the first 3 nights and was offered suite upgrade for supplement of 360 euros (difference in room rate between Park King Suite and standard award room). I accepted the offer and paid 360 euros for the 4th night. Given the high occupancy during Easter week, I'm happy that I was able to confirm the upgrade in advance.

Interesting - thanks for the data point. If I get the TSU re-applied by Hyatt or the hotel directly (right now the lowest suite class available is the "Park Executive Suite" so TSUs are out...even though there was availability when I first applied the TSU - we'll see if they offer this up as an option.

Just curious was that offer to pay for the suite upgrade for the free night, made by the hotel or Hyatt? Prior to check-in or while on site? How were taxes calculated? And since I'm playing 20 questions - curious if that night ended up being stay-credit-earning?

PHV is known for offering upgrades on pt award bookings for the difference in rate upon enquiry, and also at checkin if the guest asks and there is availability. WoH cannot offer this. Rates in France are tax inclusive (except for the Paris city tourist tax).

I'm confused by the fact that a suite upgrade can be used on some kinds of award rooms (e.g. an all-points booking) but not on other kinds of award rooms (e.g. the free night you earn by staying 30 or 60 nights).

Still, I find that the agents are usually willing to be flexible. If I get an agent who is All-Rules and No-Common-Sense, I politely end the call, call back and hope for another agent.

I usually make the reservation so that the _first_ night is eligible for a suite upgrade. Subsequent nights are some combination of paid and award nights. I phone the hotel and request to be in the same room for all of the nights, across multiple bookings. If they can confirm, then all is good. If they can't confirm (which has never yet happened) then I'll decide whether I want to use a TSU for just some of the nights, or alter the dates, or stay in the same (regular) room all of the nights and save the TSU for later.

In short, I'm aware of the rules. I'm also aware that most agents and properties exercise common sense.

it would never even cross my mind to expect Hyatt to upgrade me to a suite using a single suite upgrade cert for a stay that spans multiple reservations

It is also Hyatt that considers multiple consecutive reservations to be one stay... so why not when you don't exceed the 7 days.

And the problem mentioned earlier was that a TSU couldn't be used at all for a stay when a stay consisted of multiple reservation for which a single night wasn't eligable.

Nobody really expects a TSU to be used on a cert free night, although some hope that they won't have to move if they make it part of a larger stay :-).

wouldn't expect AA or UA to upgrade LAX-ORD ticket #1 and ORD-LHR ticket #2 same-day-90-minute-connection using a single SWU

the concept of a single cert applying to a single reservation is intuitive and rather reasonable
