For us, the location was a big plus but we found the hotel somewhat underwhelming given the target price point, largely because of breakfast (which was a bit meh for us) and the intrusive nature of the children staying. Service was mixed but that was expected given the recent opening. The design of the village is really good, but there was no wow in the room.

As an aside, I don't think anyone will "hit the gym hard." It is pretty small, also had kids in it both times we went and the equipment is pretty basic Technogym (not top of range).

One more thing I forgot to mention. The level of smoking in public areas (pool, breakfast terrace) would be jarring for someone coming from California.

You will likely get a bottle of cava as a welcome drink and maybe for your anniversary nite.

There is no lounge. the library area has a nesspresso machine and the reception area offers water. It appears that on our last day they are now setting out cava for an hour or so in the evenings. Nice touch.

In arta there are several traditional Mallorcian places that are very good (I can pm you a list of ones we tried) if your up for going about 20 min away Porto Christo has a restaurant "Quince" that we really enjoyed. Not super formal but great food.

We rented a car and drove to some of the smaller beaches. It looks like with a bit of a hike you could get some okay snorkeling. We attempted to book a padi trip but they were booked every day we were here. So jump on that ASAP if you want to go out on a boat.

Tuesday's market in arta was fun. Check it out if your Tuesday is open. .

Breakfast is so so a bit inconsistent (burnt omelet one day perfect the next hit YMMV) but you can request such things as bellinis and memosias which are apparently included (we were not charged the last 2 days after asking for them).

Don't expect much for diamond recognition. Most rates that the Dutch are booking include the room upgrade / breakfast and late check out. Or at least it's commonly offered. Aside from a bowl of cherries and cava we saw no different treatment (i.e. No priority list for reservations at restaurants)

Avoid sitting outside at dinner. Kids are consistently a nightmare here. We have had two sets of tourists come and go and both sets have had 2-3 kid per 2 adults and are crazy. We found the one night we sat inside was the only enjoyable dinner experience. The food at tapa is great though. Definitely try the red tuna and scallop / coconut almond soup. Ultimately too many common areas directly adjacent to restaurants. If you sit outside watch for flying balls and running kids in the restaurant areas.

Full review and photos coming soon. Will be working on it on the flight home
Thanks, this is really helpful! Feel free to PM any restaurant info, or simply post it here (I suspect others would be interested).

Anyway, as a result, I'm probably a bit harsh on the place, given that we traveled 18+ hours to get there. So take my notes with a grain of salt.

Positives
-really great "tree" theme, each building is named for a different fruit tree and has a grove of that specific tree surrounding the building, once the trees mature, this will be even more impressive
-plentiful bottled water at turn-down
-we got upgraded as Diamonds to a room at the top of the property with a partial ocean view, we shared NO walls with anyone (though our floor was someone's roof)... it was SOO quiet, we didn't hear any kids, the balcony was large and an incredible place to sit and eat
-many of the employees are staffed from other Park Hyatts, so they understand the brand
-incredible landscaping, beautiful fountains, coming from California where fountains are no longer politically correct, I thought this was very "old school" and cool
-buildings are brand new
-breakfast spread is amazing, has some Mallorcan specialties, including local jams (lemon! loquats!), local honies, paprika sausage, tomato/olive oil paste, some chile-marinated cheese, marinated corvina, ensaimadas, other stuff I'm forgetting!!!
-Japanese-style washlet toilet
-the public art, as usual, is so impressive
-great towels!!!

Negatives
-for an American, A/C was very weak. 2-3 times a night we would wake up in a sweat. Given that this hotel is new, I guess I just have to accept that new Spanish construction skimps on quality A/C.
-the property is large, so it's a lot of walking. Frustratingly, you do a lot of uphill walking to go downhill and vice versa. Had an ankle injury, so it was a bit tough.
-ice bucket in the room but no way to get ice? I guess I could have called, but I hate to make someone get on a golf cart just for ice.
-this kills me... the room is horrible if you like blackout conditions for sleep. The curtains in the bedroom only cut like 60% and the bathroom, whose light you can't really prevent from entering the bedroom, has no real curtains.
-there was a random THUDDUNK sound that emanated from the minibar area every thirty minutes day and night
-watch out for bugs, balcony door can't be shut when you are on the balcony
-the conditioner (Bottega Veneta brand, a leather company) is poorly designed such that is nearly impossible to extricate liquid from the bottle. I know this is a really small detail, but can you imagine paying rack rate and spending 10 minutes in the shower squeezing a bottle of conditioner like it's the meanest glass bottle of Heinz ketchup you've ever had? Really frustrating.
-maybe Spain has laws surrounding this, but the rain shower was really weak. More like a trickle. Really low flow. Take some of those fountains offline and use that water for showers!
-plenty of chairs at the pool, but not enough umbrellas! A lot of chair hoarding drama just to get shade.
-Pool is heated to a European temperature. Not an issue, but an adjustment! I think of resort life as having a warm pool, and this just wasn't. The jacuzzis were both cold, as well.
-Random service issues. Hopefully, this is all just teething.
-made an iPad request for an extra toiletry set. Request was "fulfilled" on iPad but it never happened. Then I called down the next day to reiterate my request and my disappointment that it had not happened. They agreed to do it and then never did. I called a third time to express my disappointment and ask again. They sent up a high level housekeeper to "check" on me... I explained what I wanted to her and she came back finally with the items. So, all in all, it required five touches to get my request fulfilled. I didn't bother with any weird requests after that.
-We stayed three nights and they never changed the sheets. I called them out on that. They kind of just shrugged. Sneaky!
-one time at the cafe, I waited in line behind a PH employee to buy a coffee. LOL, I get that it's in the middle of nowhere!
-We had a car, and several times we would drive up to the reception to find no one there. Then you have to walk into the lobby to deliver your keys to anyone you can find. Not a problem, not five star though.
-Breakfast was just a garbage fire service-wise. The last morning we came at 7:30 and it was quieter and much better. Other mornings it was very hard to even get water or juice. It's moments like that you wish you could serve yourself. I don't need to be served, I just want liquid! I asked three different people for a glass of water and it was 20 minutes before it happened. Then our order got lost. The wait staff seemed frustrated, too. It makes you appreciate how hard it is to get a meal service well-synchronized.
-I also don't love how they don't publish a list of what you can order at breakfast. I kept seeing things come out to other tables and saying: "Oh, I didn't know they could do that!" Steep learning curve.

Overall, I think the biggest problem was that we didn't really understand what this Park Hyatt was supposed to be. I think you're supposed to come there, stay on site, hit the pool hard, hit the gym hard, hit the spa hard, hit the restaurants hard, and never leave. Like an all-inclusive. We were in the car every day trying to see the island, and it was just a lot of tiring driving. I'd say this hotel isn't really a 5*, more like a great 4* (at least by US standards). That said, Mallorca is wonderful, and I can see why the Germans love it. But I wouldn't tell an American to go to the PH Mallorca. Go to the one in Carlsbad instead!
Thanks, this is all great info as well. A couple of reactions (mainly to the negatives, because at this price point, one would expect mostly positives).

- A number of people have written about the extensive walking, and I think that's important to point out. My wife and I are in our mid 30's and fit, so will probably see this as a positive, but this can definitely be an issue for many (my father, for example).

- Your AC comment has me nervous. Maybe it was your location on the top floor? I haven't seen others post about this, here or on TA, but I crank the AC overnight, and would be really, really unhappy if the room didn't get pretty cool.

- I feel like at high end hotels it's pretty normal to have an ice bucket in the room and have them fill it, no?

- I don't care about blacking out the room at night, but I know a lot of people that do. Not an issue for us, but probably something that will need to be addressed.

- The pool heating thing will be interesting. If it's cold in August, I can't imagine the rest of the year. I wasn't surprised the jacuzzis were cold, but am a bit bummed about that. Still, I guess you cater to your guests (in this case, overwhelmingly Germans), and they may prefer cold jacuzzis. Would be nice if they had both.

- Everyone seems to give them a pass on service issues. This is a PH. Yes, you expect facility issues after opening, but a lot of these employees were transferred from other properties, so I'm not sure they deserve a pass on soft skills. Hopefully they will get stuff figured out quickly.

- Water pressure in the shower will also bum me out if bad. You're right, maybe it's a legal thing, but that's a basic that guests judge every hotel on.

- Lastly, we kind of took a risk by booking such a long stay at a new property, in a place we're not familiar with (I've been once, but as a preteen 25 years ago). To be honest, a lot of that is trust in the brand. We're doing a day in Berlin on the way over, but spending time in the rest of Europe was not a priority, as I have visited every country in Western Europe (most multiple times), my wife and I both lived there for 10+ years, and I still travel to European cities a lot on business. We looked heavily at other Med destinations (Greece, Santorini, etc), and it will be interesting to see how PH/Mallorca stacks up.

That is a real issue now.

@Reisen: Where did you hear, that Gemans like cold jacuzzis? I am German and never heard that.

@Service: The PH Vienna had major service issues as well at the beginning and they had other PH staff as well, it just takes its time.

The rainshower has low water pressure but I think this is on purpose i.e. to feel like rain. If you use the smaller shower-head, the pressure is good, so you have both options.

Haha, I have no inside info. I'm German-American (and lived 8 years in Germany), but was just guessing that the cold jacuzzi thing might be a European thing. If it's not (and most European resorts have warm ones), that's a head-scratcher.

FWIW, the plunge pool in our suite at the GH Playa Del Carmen was also cold. Too cold, in fact, for Mrs. Reisen to use it (which severely bummed me out).

No it is not a european thing - only sauna plunge pools are cold.

@plunge pools, the ones we had in the Maldives were cold too, the ones in Thailand were reasonable warm.

I think the Jaccuzi's are too be warm (the warning sign lists 35 C) not super hot for us from America but still the fact they are cold seems to either be due to the summer weather or they are broken or not commissioned yet for heating.

PH Mallorca - Various Rooms and Property (15 Photos)

Park Hyatt Mallorca

When I saw this annoucment for a Park Hyatt in Mallorca I was excited. I had spent much time in Mallorca growing up . We booked as soon as points came available for my partners Birthday. Since her birthday is in peak season the Points were a great deal.

Check In

Upon arrival taxi driver refused to take credit cards (although negoiated originally) - Bell Boy had reception front the extra 10euro plus tip. Super helpful immediately.

Checkin was slow. Was offered water or coffee when sitting down to check in. Took about 20 minutes. Then we were walked around the common areas. Resturants, Pools and the Gym locations and hours were pointed out. It was mentioned for the Resturants reservations are recommended.

Finally we were escorted to our first room. We were upgraded to a View King -

Room

The first room we recieved was a View King (we spent 2 nights in this room type - 2 nights in a presidental suite and 1 night in a standard suite)

View King - The view was the highlight -

IMG_5803.JPG

The room itself was the standard layout (sorry photo blurry) - The toliet was a washlet style. Also the Bath had a window view of the sea and shared a common area with the shower.

As a Diamond we had a bottle of Cava waiting in the room along with a bottle of water. Cherries and chocolates were delivered later.

-

1_IMG_5807.JPG

Bed was comfortable - A bit soft but I was able to sleep.

Shade / Blinds - Bathroom blinds are a mesh material that dont really dark out the area. In the bedroom the shades can be pulled and are a bit more effective. Unlike most PH shades are not automatic.

Second Room - Presidental Suite - We decided to stay 3 more nights as 2 nights of P&C became available. We booked a Standard rate for the third. Applied a DSU too the reservation and requested the Presidental Suite - It was only available for 2 of the 3 nights which was fine.

Patio is about twice the size of a regular suite with a hot tub. View was sub par - No view of sunset or of the Sea. Intrestingly no washlet toliet in either bathroom. Hot Tub was the WOW of the room. - Small second bathroom.

Standard Suite -

This suite faced the sunset - Staff reffered too it as one of the Sunset suites.

Bathroom was identical to presidental. I actually liked the view much better - Sunset here was beautiful. The living area was much larger and felt more comfortable. It also had a small dining table. Second bathroom was a bit larger than presidential.

A note regarding rooms - Basically there are 3 Floor Plans for rooms (they can be mirrored)

1) Presidential Suite

2) Suite - View / Standard

3) Standard Room - Park / View / Deluxe -

Deluxe Rooms Have access to the common grass area for the patio and are on the ground floor (room is the same is standard/view room)

View rooms have a view of the sea

Park Rooms have views of the resort

Deluxe Room - Patio

With that said View Rooms are probably the rooms to go after for an availablity upgrade unless you need grass for some reason.

Service

Overall the service was good for a new PH. Bell boys were very responsive and would drive us to the Caves or the Beach at our request.

We ordered ice several times as the ice buckets are tiny! This was delivered within about 5-10 minutes.

Turndown only happened once on site. Requesed via iPad every night. I suspect this will change as the hotel becomes more established. It would also be nice if they filled ice buckets at turndown.

iPad is a cool idea but it didnt work well even orders to room service didnt work consistently. Use the iPad as a menu and call down for orders for things.

Pool service for drinks is okay. The bartenders circulate once an hour or so. No one picks up abandoned towels so it always looks like every chair under umbrellas are taken. Would be great if someone proactively removed these or add more umbrellas.

Pool Bar

-

IMG_6062.JPG

At first there was no evening service for canapes, champange or wine. On our last day they put out several bottles of cava along with olives in the library we were told this was a new service they were setting up. I am curious if this will be consistent if so its a nice new perk.

Dining

We dined at all 4 resturants on site.

Asia - We tried some of the curries - they were lacking in flavor and the meat was chewy. Bartener didnt know what a Martini was so we tried the house speciality cocktails. They were very good.

Tapa - Very good food service was great the first night we ate here bad the second night. Both times I was hit by balls from kids playing football. First night the manager spoke with the parents and the kids stopped playing ball. The second night we had glasses getting knocked off tables - wine spilt - and no one did anything. My partner even asked the parents to take the ball away or something - which resulted in nothing.

The bar in Tapa is the primary hotel bar. Very good bartenders -who know what a martini is! The area itself is a bit awkward and small. Bartenders also appear to wait tables which is a bit odd.

Balearic - Breakfast  - Just okay - Local stuff is good but not replenished frequently. Service is spotty here due to the volume of guests. A few times we finished eating before drinks arrived. One day eggs were great the next they were burnt. No menu for ordered stuff is frustraiting most things were accomidated. I was able to order a soprissata flatbread , omlet, fried eggs , waffles and pancakes. Maybe they will start offering Room Service breakfast for Diamonds if they continue including breakfast in rates.

Balearic - Dinner - The resturant turns into a upscale grilled resturant - Many grilled shellfish and beef options. Good quality. Ate too much!  It should be noted that the english menu does not denote that prices on grilled meats are per 500g - Spanish menu reflects this.  I could see someone getting upset with a 150euro lobser expecting it to be 50.

Cafe - Good for lunch light salads and sandwitches - reasonably prices.

Room Service - At this point just Meh. Breakfast was poor in room the one day when wait was 40+ Minutes for a table at breakfast. Late night snacks were quite good. Salami and Cheese sandwitches were personal favorites :)

Spa

The spa was very nice - The relaxation room has the best views of the sea. There is a co-ed pool in the Spa - nice to sip some Cava with your partner. The sauna is very nice. The Iced Tea is delcious!

Services were good.

Massages were a bit soft. Facials and Pedicures used great products but felt like the treatment did not have much variety.

Overall

The kids were a big problem for us here. We know its mid summer and a familiy resort but nothing is defined for children. If the hotel establishes some kid friendly areas and implemented a quiet hours type rule the kid issue would be midigated.

Also Diamond Recigonition here is just okay - Since all other guests get the same perks under the current standard rates breakfast is packed, upgrades are limited and theres no real enhanced services for Diamonds.

This will likely change as service evolves here.

It should be noted that WiFi is very fast here (30M-50M down)  - But appears to be high latency so its poor for such things as Skype or WiFi calling.

PH Brand was a consideration for me.. I grew up coming here with my family when I was very young and I've always wanted to go back. Typical experiences at PH for me are almost always great. So we pulled the trigger!

Thanks for posting the review. Some of your photos got turned around, that, or the architecture is unique.
