Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis Officially Open

Hyatt Hotels Corporation and McGough Development announced today the opening of Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis in McGough’s Bloomington Central Station mixed-use development site near the Mall of America. As part of the Hyatt Regency brand family, the contemporary hotel offers 303 guestrooms, including 14 suites, and is designed to foster connections and serve as a dynamic, energizing space where guests can collaborate, share and find inspiration.

Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis features 289 deluxe guestrooms. Guestrooms are designed to connect guests to all the essentials, simply and intuitively, and are equipped with the latest facilities and amenities, including the signature Hyatt Grand Bed®, a 55-inch flat screen HDTV with plug and play personal device capabilities and complimentary Wi-Fi. Deluxe guestrooms vary from two queen-sized beds or one king bed; deluxe king guestrooms offer a contemporary sitting area.

The hotel also features 14 Regency Club® suites, providing exclusive access to the Regency Club lounge, which offers complimentary breakfast, all-day coffee and tea service, and evening cocktails and canapés.

The hotel’s fitness facilities include the latest high-tech cardio, strength training equipment and an indoor pool. To encourage wellness, concierge services are able to provide forgotten workout gear as well as maps of local and walking paths.

Three of us from FT stayed here last night, of supposedly ten guests (or ten rooms occupied by guests--I'm not sure whether the ten number I keep hearing refers to the number of people or number of rooms). It looks like five rooms on the club floor (8, but with the junior and senior suite on every floor having club lounge access here) were occupied.

I love the way staff have attached a purple ribbon printed with the hotel's name across every door. At check in they invite you to cut the ribbon (and keep the scissors, also with a purple logo). This will presumably continue until every room has been occupied by an overnight guest. It's a fun thing to do.

This morning I was given a purple (with the hotel name and HR logo of course) tote bag with some gifts.

The food here is fabulous. It's local regional healthy stuff with Scandinavian and German influences inspired by the predominant groups who settled this area of the USA. I've sampled two appetizers, a main course for breakfast, and hot breakfast ordered from the menu this morning. Food prices seem reasonable to me for a four star hotel. According to the room service menu (which also looks good but is not identical to what's on offer in the restaurant), there's a 19% service charge that includes a gratuity plus a $4 delivery charge. There are even interesting choices for the middle of the night.

It's inaccurate and confusing to say that this hotel has 289 deluxe guest rooms. At least on the Hyatt reservations website, deluxe is a specific room category that designates a slightly larger room on a regular or club floor.

Room categories are as follows:

King Room, 300-330 sq ft

Two Queens, 335-381 sq ft

Deluxe King, 361-435 sq ft

Deluxe Queen, 361-435 sq ft (seems to really have TWO queen beds)

Regency Club King, 300-313 sq ft (8th floor with lounge access)

Regency Club Queen, 338 sq ft (seems to really have TWO queen beds, 8th floor with lounge access)

Regency Club Deluxe King, 361-435 sq ft (8th floor with lounge access)

Regency Club Deluxe Queen, 361-435 sq ft (seems to really have TWO queen beds, 8th floor with lounge access)

Regency Club Suite King, 571 sq ft, seems to have separate bedroom but described as a junior suite

Regency Club Executuve Suite King, 958 sq ft, corner with bay window and "boardroom" table
