Park Hyatt St. Kitts REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and St. Michael’s Foundation, Ltd. Planning
a 2013 Opening for Park Hyatt St. Kitts at Cockleshell Bay
CHICAGO (September 17, 2009) – Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and St. Michael’s Foundation, Ltd. announce the signing of a management agreement for Park Hyatt St. Kitts at Cockleshell Bay.

To be located on the island’s southeastern peninsula against a breathtaking backdrop of pristine white sand beach, Park Hyatt St. Kitts will boast 125 rooms and a state-of-the-art luxury spa featuring eight treatment rooms. The Cockleshell Bay development will also feature 100 Park Hyatt-branded residential townhouses and condominiums, and 86 estate villas, which will deliver the same sophisticated design and discriminating service for which the Park Hyatt brand is globally known. When it is completed, Park Hyatt St. Kitts will be the first Park Hyatt hotel in the Caribbean.

“Park Hyatt St. Kitts will continue the company’s expansion in the Caribbean, joining Hyatt Regency Trinidad, which opened in 2008, and Hyatt Regency Curacao, scheduled to open in early 2010,” said Pat McCudden, senior vice president, development, Latin America and the Caribbean. “We believe St. Michael’s Foundation is the ideal partner for this project and we look forward to delivering an unprecedented level of luxury to St. Kitts.”

Occupying more than 150 acres, the Cockleshell Bay development is expected to be fully complete by 2013. In addition to the Park Hyatt hotel and residences, additional components of the Cockleshell Bay development include a 160-berth marina, a casino and a selection of worldclass restaurants.

“St. Kitts offers a tropical landscape unlike any other Caribbean destination, and we’re confident this development will showcase how the island offers something for all travelers, from our chic capital city of Basseterre to lush rainforests and everything in between,” said Chris Kanahai, chief executive officer, St. Michael’s Foundation. “Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and the Park Hyatt brand share St. Michael’s Foundation’s commitment to excellence and I know we are leading a new area of tourism in St. Kitts that will benefit the region in many ways.”

I hope this actually comes to fruition. So many park hyatts have been announced and then the plans seemed to have fallen through.

That was exactly my thought as well. I think that they should announce these only when they have something in CONCRETE.

Cabo, Kinsale (Ireland), Bermuda (?), Andalusia (Spain), plus many more I'm probably forgetting off the top of my head. If we look at the "New Hotel Announcements" thread from a few years ago, we can figure pretty easily which planned PHs have been scrapped.

In addition to the above, I remember a PH in Dublin and Macau (although now there is a Grand Hyatt in Macau) announced a few years ago.

And more recently, I remember announcements for PH Koh Samui and Chiang Mai. But from looking at the list of future park hyatts in the newsletter (http://www.park.hyatt.com/_files/pdf...er_6.15.09.pdf), I don't see those anymore either.

I remember seeing PH Mumbai on the list too of future hotels, but that seems to be gone as well. Hopefully the other planned PH properties in India don't go down the drain.

I also remember now a PH Cairo in the works, but that seems to have disappeared.

And I vaguely remember that the Hotel Victor in Miami was supposed to be flagged officially as the Park Hyatt Hotel Victor. But in the end, it just became known as the Hotel Victor. Not sure why.

Koh Samui is still planned, according to this page. However, PH Hangzhou etc are not found on this page. How can Hyatt put forward conflicting information?

Just spent the week in St. Kitts and was suprised to read in a local magazine about the PH that was coming soon. However, upon venturing down to Cockleshell Bay, I didn't see any development in that area. In fact there was nothing there but a couple beach bars. There is a plan to completely develop (i.e. destory) that end of the island but little work has been completed except work in/around the Great Salt Pond.

Picture of the proposed "development."

Park Hyatt St. Kitts Opening 2015

Certainly a welcome addition to the PH Portfolio and only three years from opening if everything goes as planned.

Very interesting! ^
It's going to be part of a major development and I'd hazard a guess that 3 years is a very optimistic time span for completion as part of such a large project on this island.

This is a vehicle for purposes of acquiring dual/multiple-citizenship without having to invest a lot of time by relocating "full-time" to another country to acquire a rather useful passport?
