It sounds good on paper, but the property is very likely way too big for the area these days anyway.
It would not surprise me at all, if the costs of such a massive renovation are higher in comparison to a completely new building...

EDIT: It appears that their booking system is only allowing bookings through 2012. So Somewhere Over the Atlantic's January shuttering prediction is still in play...

Prices have crashed, from $199/night yesterday to $119/night today, breakfast included. Up to 4 in a room (Deluxe Double)! AAA rate of $107.

I'm sure there will be a ton of New Years cancellations as a result, which means a loss of a lot of expected revenue for Adoba.

A trend of garishness?
I wouldn't think cancellation of Mr. Bettman's winter farce would have much impact on occupancy, especially as the property does a fair bit of business as the homebase for many youth hockey teams visiting for tournaments.
While this deal festers, it looks like either the owner or potential operator of the Pontchartrain is possibly taking a page from Adoba's aesthetic playbook.
Could a mutant strain of carpetbagger postmodernism be descending upon the area?

This begs the question of whether an operator would find it economically sensible in the metro Detroit marketplace to take on a FS flag that would demand a healthy investment.
The two most noteworthy new hotel announcements in Metro Detroit this year have been an HP (new construction in Novi) and an Aloft, slated as part of the renovated David Whitney building. Despite local media hype of these being "boutique" brands, FTers know better than that.
For a FS Hyatt to emerge downtown, I suspect that an existing FS operating property would have to find its existing affiliation unsatisfactory and thus jump ship. Would the Westin Book Cadillac or Marriott Ren Cen entertain this?
(FWIW, the long-empty Pontchartrain was purchased in March by a Mexican developer, who appears to have the same aversion to investment as the Hyatt Dearborn's Middle East investors; the speculation is that the Pontch aspires to be a a Crowne Plaza.)

The city hired attorney Stephanie Morita of Johnson, Rosati, Schultz & Joppich for $13,755 for a Michigan Tax Tribunal dispute with Royal Realties LLC, which owns the Adoba Hotel Dearborn/Detroit building, 600 Town Center Drive. It formerly was a Hyatt hotel. Morita successfully represented the city a few years ago in a dispute with the Detroit Lions over the value of their practice facility.
