I have an upcoming stay and read the entire thread. I saw some common themes, and thought it would be useful to start a wiki. Please feel free to update or correct anything. I haven't stayed here, so the information is based on the contents of the thread:

- Diamond Suite Upgrades are NOT available at this property.
- Diamond members receive a complimentary full breakfast for up to 4 guests.
- The beds are very firm platform beds. I saw a few posts where a foam pad for the top of the bed was requested.
- Docked cruise ships that may obstruct the view from the Harbour view rooms.
- The hotel is 4 stories.

The concierge desk offers a weekly tour of the Rocks on Saturday.

Link that shows when cruise ships will be docked opposite the hotel:

That's amazing I was there Sunday night dining room as well. With window seats and two children in a party of 5.
I was last to use the spa which broke down while I WAs in it. Then on level 3 the shower in the mens change room didn't have any hot water, so I requested assistance from a lady in the spa a level down who came up to help. She ran the hot water for a while and it finally came thru. She told me to run it for a few mins and should be all fine. Which I did and then unfortunately the smoke detectors when off. Did anyone here a fire alarm about 4pm Sunday afternoon that was me .

The right side lift also shut down and the couple next to us compared about his tuna , plus our ocean trout came out stone cold.

I took a few photo pool , gym just haven't worked out how to upload from iPhone yet

Finally I found a review from a German blog showing more pictures of the newly renovated rooms: http://www.svenblogt.de/review-das-p...r-und-den-hafe

This room should be a City/Harbour Room. I don't think it's too crowded at the moment and the pool area looks quite nice. Originally the plan was to have the pool raised on the right hand side facing the harbour, but apparently they decided to keep the old pool and refurbished the poolside area.

First Impressions
The entrance is still pretty much the same but the first change you notice is the foyer which has been moved to just inside the main entrance rather than hidden away on the left hand side. Looks very good and the other thing that strikes you immediately is how many staff are on duty.

Check In
We were shown around the ground floor and our host explained the concept of the new hotel which had been open for 1 week and 1 day. They are aiming for a theme that they called “residential” with the idea being that you treat the common areas and your room as your home. To emphasise this they have rename the sitting and eating area behind reception “The Living Room”.
We were escorted to our room and all the facilities were explained as well as our Diamond benefits.

Our Room
As some others posters have said the rooms do look a little dark but unlike many other Hyatt’s they do have lots of artificial lighting available and of course there is plenty of natural light with the blinds open. There is a lot of wood used in the decoration and furnishings, although it looks like some of the built in furniture has been re-used as there are already signs of wear and tear. Some of the stand alone furniture was quite battered so again I guess this was recycled.
The room has plenty of storage space, a built in bar and safe are also in the room although our safe never worked.

There is a separate bathroom and WC. The bathroom is actually a wet room with both a shower and a bath which scored extra points from my wife. The bathroom can be made more private by closing sliding doors – very similar to the set up at the PH in Melbourne.

The King Bed was very comfortable and there were a wide range of cushions and pillows provided.

When we checked in there was a small bowl of fruit provided in the alcove. Later a bottle of decent red wine was delivered and later still a jar of home made fruit jellies.

Pool Area
The pool is still where it was before but they have moved the seating area to the left. There is a spa bath but it was out of order during our stay. There is no shade on the roof area – I guess umbrellas will be fitted later. Unfortunately the ongoing bridge works have now reached the Hyatt and sitting outside the construction work is very loud.

Work in Progress
It’s not hard to see that there is still a lot of work going on in the property. There were workmen obvious throughout the hotel. We did a circuit of the hotel during the day and at night and it loks like 30-50% of the rooms are completed. The new penthouses on Floor 4 are still Work in Progress as is the area behind the restaurant and the side entrance is not yet in use. Considering how much work is going on there was very little construction noise.

Dinner
As this was the last night of our holiday we decided to eat in the Dining Room which was very quiet. We were given a table near the windows which we enjoyed. We had intended just to order main courses but we were “persuaded” to order a starter to share. This was a tuna dish (the most expensive starter) which consisted of four small collops of cooked tuna – nothing wrong with it but not inspiring.

For mains my wife had Ocean Trout with Spinach. She declared that the fish was perfect. I opted for the caramelised beef brisket with duck fat fries. The beef was delicious although the caramel was slightly burnt. To accompany our meal we had a Tasmanian Marion Bay Riesling.

Overall we enjoyed our meal very much although the service is a little on the intrusive side – I put this down to eagerness on the staff and the lack of customers.

Breakfast
Included for Diamond members. We opted for a light breakfast. My wife had Eggs Benedict which she loved and I had black pudding which came with super light scrambled eggs and potatoes. We both thought that the food was excellent. We made the mistake of sitting by the window but as the sun moved I was soon in the full glare and very hot.

We had asked for a pot of coffee but this is no longer available. Strange then that the next two couples asked for a pot of coffee as well. I hope that they will listen to their customers requests.

Checkout
All handled very efficiently. We explained that the safe didn’t work and that the iron smoked viciously when turned on and they promised to get these issues fixed.

Overall
A great hotel and still with the best views in Sydney. I think that they will face strong competition from Four Seasons, Westin and others for the premium market especially at the room rate they are currently charging.

On a very positive note the staff are wonderful. Virtually everyone greeted us by name and they were keen to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I look forward to reading future reports and expect any minor issues will get sorted over time.

I took a number of pictures which will appear at http://www.flickr.com/photos/4614477...7629118938140/

Thanks BAGoldBoy,
Very helpful. Am planning a trip in late April. Any timing on the completion of the construction?

They wouldn't be drawn but it was obvious that a number of bedrooms were still far from finished. They are working very hard to get it finished but I would guess it would be another month or two before everything is complete.

The good news is, that apart from a few teething problems, the ongoing work will not spoil your stay at this beautiful hotel.

Smile Greetings from Down Under All

This marks my approximate 15 th or 16th year as a guest at this hotel as I approach the 2 million Gold Passport point mark ^
I arrive at the Park Hyatt Sydney tomorrow for one night only
My original booking was for 2 nights
After much thought and a brief earlier walk through of this spectacular renovated hotel I was concerned about sleeping well
Thought about canceling both nights however how could I do a accurate detailed review without actually staying?

I decided early on the only major let down of tbe renovation may just be the platform bed for some
Hoping they are at least as comfortable as the Grand Hyatt New York platform bed.
Budget hotels for 49 dollars a night have these platform beds and so does the Hilton Sydney.
I can clearly see that even though tbe bed may be very firm for some the mattress appears to be outstanding quality.
Still personally see this as a major mistake for a 5 star hotel of this calibre
Especially with a larger base of older clients.

The hotel at present has a 70 per cent full use of rooms and suites capacity
according to my highly informed source
The team ecountered here at the Park Hyatt Sydney thus far seem mostly happy spririted, hospitable and welcoming with the exception of only one team
member The public areas are a huge success for the most part
The lobby as others have noted has some obstruction with the front desk
Taking away a bit from the world class residential feel and making it feel more like another upscale hotel
I think the trade off is a greater function of tbe space for a more social communal ambience
for both guests staying or not staying in the hotel
A menu is offered throughout the day for light meals and snacks

I look forward going into far greater detail after arrival and departure

Cheers

Question about award stay options

Thinking of booking an award stay using points.
Two different king bed room options are showing:
"Gold Passport Award Park King" and "Gold Passport Award City Harbor King"

What is the difference?

Also, what is the likelihood that a diamond member on a points award stay would be able to be upgraded to an opera view room at check in?

Good question since there is no Park King category on the official site. City Harbor King is basically the entry room which is what award nights book into.

As discussed in the past (perhaps its in the predecessor thread now), the vast majority of rooms at this property (which has a serpentine shape) has some sort of a harbor / opera house view (some rooms may not have a "full on" straight across view of the opera house but at an angle). The least desirable rooms are the ones with very low numbers x01-perhaps x05 (located above the entrance of the property with no view) and the very high number rooms x40 or thereabouts (these rooms view of the harbor / opera house is obscured by tree(s) at least prior to renovation (perhaps the foliage was trimmed / cut down?).

Keep in mind that all award redemption rooms at this property are for standard rooms only.
So IMO I don't see how it really matters.
Having said that you may wish to book the Harbor King just because it says so
Just be sure to request your Opera House view request in the comment details section of your reservation. I can assure you it won't be a first

As a Diamond having completed an exceptional stay experience at this property yesterday I am happy to say confidently you will be well looked after.
As long as you are aware that this property has a strict no suite upgrade policy. My exceptional room felt somewhat like a suite
I have a long trip report which I am anxious to start working on.Its a highly positive post for the most part minus the few bumps in the road during my stay.

Never before in my 15 plus years experience at this property has there been a much more impressive group on property looking over guest details and their experience. The property kept almost all team members since the closing and the experience is one that is simply amazing for this early on as they continue to open all guest rooms and suites inside the hotel.

Upcoming in my report
The Butler greets you shortly after check in to your room.He can assist with your every need including unpacking or packing
One doesn't have to search, call or seek him out as in the past. This property is on its way to reclaiming its once proud glory plus

Was at Guillame at Bennelong last night before the Opera and the Queen Mary II completely blocked the view of the Harbour view rooms. Unless you were in an Opera view room you would have zero view. If I was paying cash I would be seriously displeased!

Under the 'Best Available Room' benefit (and when the property is 100% operational), I would expect to be upgraded to an Opera Deluxe. Past experience has demonstrated that you may need to politely push this benefit under the T/Cs, and call the Diamond line to enforce it.

Not having to fight for upgrades always leans me toward Hyatt, rather than SPG properties, but at this property, it certainly appeared before the refurb that they were doing their best to dishonour this benefit and argue a one category upgrade is sufficient.

From my experience at this property, they always given Opera Deluxe when available and occasionally even upgraded to suite. My most recent stay was last weekend during Mardi Gras period, the hotel website was showing zero inventory, however the duty manager still arranged Opera Deluxe room which I was very impressed.

I deceived paying Opera Deluxe Room for my upcoming stay, it's looks much better than standard room.

I was around Circular Quay last night as well, I thought Queen Mary II only blocked few City view rooms?

Here's the photo I took from Guillame at Bennelong. I would expect the City/Harbour view rooms were overshadowed by QMII, blocked any view of Circular Quay, and only the Opera View rooms would have a decent view.

We were staying there when QMII was docked and we still had good views of the City and Circular Quay. It was an awesome sight to wake up and open the blinds and see that monster in the harbour ^

Maybe you were referring to QEII ? Yesterday it was the first time QMII berth at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The view from room number x017 to x12 should be fine.

Opera Deluxe Room
