When I called Hyatt CS earlier, the phone agent told me that I still would be eligible to receive free nights even if I chose miles. She said it would still be considered an eligible stay regardless of whether I chose points or miles.

What if my stay overlaps a date prior or after the promotion earning period? A member has asked the Diamond Desk this question and the answer was that the stay must include a NIGHT within the promotion period to be eligible. However, you may need to request a manual adjustment from CS if this happens.
I ask GP about my future stay from Jan 30th to Feb 2nd, here is the email response:
Thank you for contacting Hyatt Gold Passport Customer Service. I
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
The Next Big Thing promotion ends on January 31, 2010. Therefore,
since the mentioned stay ends on February 2, 2010, it will not be
eligible for The Next Big Thing promotion.
Please let me know if I may assist you further. Thank you for your
continued support of the Hyatt Gold Passport program.

Bold are mine. I can follow the rule but Hyatt will lose two nights to Hilton.
Will I get a different answer from diamond desk? I didn't call because I want written proof just in case.
Boo! I've always hated that rule. If I'm throwing down change for X (X > 2) nights, why the heck should I be penalized more than the guy who stayed twice that week? Lame.
Sorta makes me want to stay at night at Marriott in the middle of the week just out of spite.
Okay, money, mouth, etc. I had a X night stay with Hyatt. I broke it up into a 1 day stay with Hyatt, 1 day stay with Hilton, and then X-2 day stay with Hyatt. I saved a few bucks (about $30), Hyatt gets less money, and I get more UA miles. Yay promotions

BlissWorld-I agree with you. The T&C for earning bonus points requires that you choose points (naturally), but is silent as to any such requirement for earning free nights or double stay credits.
"To receive bonus points, you must be a Hyatt Gold Passport member during the Promotion Period, register for the promotion, provide your Hyatt Gold Passport account number at reservation/check-in, be a registered guest physically occupying the room to which you are registered, choose points for your stay and pay an Eligible Rate for your stay."

Can FFN be redeemed from March 31 to April 1?
I'm trying to decide how many FFN I want to earn and was wondering if one can use a FFN award for night of March 31 to April 1? I have stay for March 28 to April 4 and wondering if I can only redeem 3 FFN or if I can redeem 4 FFN.

Could you check out on Jan 31 (to trigger promotion qualification) and check back in? Realize both stays would be combined so you would not get 2 stay credits, but perhaps the system would recognize the stay within the promo period.

I stand corrected.
If you choose FFN as your promotional award, I find no line in T&C not allowing you to participate if you opt to earn travel partner currency instead of GP points. Please mind, that you don't earn GP bonus points (eg DEL5K, GX) but 1W for any eligible stay you show your travel program membership card at check-in.
Please note, that GP reserves the right to alter or withdraw this promotion at any time without notice.

PLEASE READ THESE FAQs - MOST OF THE COMMON QUESTIONS WILL PROBABLY BE ANSWERED HERE Are there capacity controls on FFN awards? FFN awards are capacity controlled awards. In general, if you know you want to use one, make an award booking now, and later you can switch your award from points to an FFN award. Elite members especially can usually book an award stay even if they don't have the required number of points in their account. In the past, FFN award inventory was the same as point award inventory. However, this is the first round after the change in April 2009 which eliminated capacity control for awards where if a basic category room is available for revenue booking, it is available for award redemption. As such, we’re not sure if FFN inventory remains exactly the same as point award inventory.
I'm not sure if I agree with the above interpretation of the T&Cs, nor with LIH Prem's interpretation in the other (now-closed) thread:

Yes, FFN's certainly WERE capacity controlled in all past FFN promo prior to the April 2nd, 2009 elimination of capacity controls. However GP Concierge's answer directly out of the FAQs she provided in Post #1 above seem to say otherwise:

Yes.
If you can make a non-capacity controlled award reservation in advance using points and convert that to an FFN reservation, then obviously it is NOT capacity controlled, correct? Or am I missing something obvious here that other's seem to see?
I don't think there's any question that these are not capacity controlled based on GP Concierge's FAQ answer, unless she was incorrect when writing the FAQs.

As if often the case, the above is just incorrect info from the CSR. You won't automatically get FFN credit for a stay that ends after Jan 31st, however a simple 30 second phone call will yield the 1/2 an FFN credit you are looking for. Way too often these days the Hyatt CSRs don't know what they are talking about, sometimes even the Diamond CSRs (or should I say Diamond "Reservation Agents" ).

Ok - I'm travelling and wanted to answer a few of the questions - but won't quote everything here:
Title is being fixed - my bad
I'm pretty sure that choosing miles for a stay will still trigger the free nights provided that you choose that but not the 3,000 bonus points - so if you plan on choosing miles, you should not choose the bonus points.
Check-in on 1/30 check-out on 2/2 - probably won't trigger this FFN (or bonus points) automatically but I'm sure that CS will be able to manually adjust it.
Capacity control - I'm hoping that you are right in that it will match the point award inventory but I put that in the FAQs more as a warning since we're not 100% sure.
Redemption past 3/31 - It's too early to tell (or ask about) but in the past Hyatt has usually granted a 1 month extension (at least) to members (at least Diamonds).
It will still count for the promo. They don't actually discount or change the room rate... a manual certificate adjustment is made off of the final total at check-out.
