Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin REVIEWS - MASTER THREAD

Today I checked the GP website to search the room rate in China regional and found that Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin will be opening mid-February, 2009 and will be accepting reservations from March 15, 2009. ( so that means opening schedule may change?)

Referred the website, it mentioned "More room types and dates will be added at a later stage. The following facilities will not yet be available when the hotel opens initially: Regency Club lounge, Camp Hyatt, Tin Tin Bar, Sha Tin 18, Lobby/Gourmet Shop, Pool Bar and Melo Spa."

I called to GP service center in Hong Kong and inform me that Diamond member will not be able to get Regency Club lounge access/benefits during the opening stay.

"Any supplementary measure for this issue?"
GP: "You have to check with local hotel directly..."
"So how about the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong,Tsim Sha Tsui?"
GP: "Opening schedule still not confirmed yet..."

Okay, then I booked a room on MTN VIEW KING and daily rate is HKD$1200 plus 10% surcharge. Friendly price but so far far away to the city center...

Perhaps you should stay at another hotel closer to the places you need to be?

I am confused. Grand Hyatt HK has the best RC in the world and you want to try out another Hyatt? What does it have to offer?

Gee, I don't know, the ability to gain a stay credit for 1/2 to 1/3 the price?

The pictures of the room on the hotel website look quite nice!

There's really not much in the area.. You are basically next to Chinese U and the Shatin racetrack... Its funny tho how both Hyatt Regencys in HK are opening the same year... The TST one is slated to be opened in July/August I hear...

Staying at the Hyatt Sha Tin right now for the weekend. Hotel has soft-opened for about two weeks.

Location is right opposite the University MTR Station; I would say it is a 5-minute walk to the hotel. The lobby looks quite quiet and I was the only guest there at 8:00pm checkin. The receptionist was very nice and tried to start up a pleasant conversation. Unfortunately, I was just too tired to respond much.

The room is exactly as pictured on the Hyatt website. I paid HKD 850/night on my corporate rate. My favorite is a nice big shower with good water pressure and hot-enough water. Bed was comfortable. Lighting was very good throughout the room, with straight-forward controls. I was upgraded as a Diamond from a mountain-view room to a riverview room. It is a nice change of scenery from the usual Hong Kong skyline.

Regency Club is not open yet. Spa is not open yet. None of the restaurants are open with the exception of Cafe. Fitness centre only open from 6:00am - 10:00pm, but pool not open yet. Highest floor opened is 10th floor (on which I was assigned). It is anticipated that more rooms and facilities will be operational by end of March.

I had access to a car for the weekend, so I called up the hotel in advance to inquire about parking. The girl on the phone said that hotel guests had a preferential rate of $120/day. When I drove up to the hotel, the security guard said that parking was complimentary, and this was confirmed by staff at checkin. Parking is one floor below the lobby; not that many spaces available.

Having breakfast right now at Cafe. The breakfast is free for Diamonds because the Regency Club is not open yet. Very good selection including separate cooking stations for Chinese, Western, cold dishes and cereals, pastries, and fruits and juices.

Good hotel to stay at in hong kong if you do not mind the quietness of the Sha Tin area.

Thanks for your sharing. I booked one night on Feb. 28 and will share some pictures after check-out.

By the way, I talked to reservation department staff and she mentioned that hotel will offer free breakfast and free drinks in the restaurant for diamond member due to Regency Club not open yet - any experience during cocktail hours?

IIRC, the cocktail hour was something like from 5-7pm, but I got there after 8pm, so missed it.

Thanks. I sent a email to reservation desk and replied as follow:

Dear Mr MattTaiwan,

Warm greetings from Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin.

Thank you for your email today. Please be informed that our Hotel is partially open at this soft opening stage. We are opening in early April. In the next few weeks, the Hotel will endeavour to provide more products and services. We apologise that selected facilities such as the swimming pool, sauna & steam, whirlpool, Sha Tin 18 (Chinese restaurant), Tin Tin Bar, Melo Spa and Camp Hyatt are not available during this period.

In the meantime, our all day dining Cafe located in the Lobby features four show kitchens serving home-style international favourites and local Hong Kong cuisine during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The spacious terrace overlooking the pool and mountains is the perfect spot for alfresco dining. To dine in the comfort of your own room, Room Service is available 24 hours.
Fitness Centre on mezzanine floor features an extensive range of equipment, and is open daily from 6.30am to 10pm. We will also provide information about hiking, bike rental and swimming pool options outside the hotel.

In regards of your enquiry, our Regency Club Lounge is not available at this stage. It is therefore, we are more than happy to offer the Cafe for the buffet breakfast and Lounge for the evening cocktail.

Please advise if the airport pick up is required or not. It will be only HK$650 for a limousine pick-up from Airport to Hotel per car per trip. I look forward to welcoming you on 28 February at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin.

Yours sincerely
