Hyatt Regency In Hakone, Japan

I can't believe these rates, $ 700 - 1200 per night? That's on the
HYATT website. Even considering that Japan is expensive, this one
beats them all.

Seems like a great use for GP awards.

Hakone is a cat 4 - so 15000 per night. Not a bad price for those who have recently availved themselves of the HR O'Hare "NEW" promotion.

Maybe you can check other dates... stayed last October, and the rates weren't that high.

Yes, as Aircoco mentioned, dates are all important -- especially in Japan. The end of March/beginning of April are cherry blossom season and rates at a place like Hakone (out in nature) will be considerably higher. Granted, the cherry blossoms will also be beautiful! Likewise, the autumn foliage season ("momiji") in November or so will be quite pricey. The other factor would be national holidays and, of course, weekends since Hakone is a quick getaway for many people in Tokyo.

Still, it is a lovely property and an entirely different experience from the other Hyatts in Japan. Good luck!

For that kind of moolah you can do much better in Hakone, high season or not.

That is so true. Tokyo is already in "full" cherry blossom mode,
out here we will have to wait another month or so. We will
be checking the Hyatt again later in the year and certainly
not go on a weekend or during these Japanese holidays.
Hopefully the rate will be more reasonable then.

Point well taken, however, I was considering signing up for the Gold
passport. Then a stay out there in this property comes in handy and
should provide a good starting point. Haven't done anything yet, though.
I do understand that signing up before April 30 affords instant status,
just can;t remember which level. Assume not much higher than basic.
