To qualify for the Government Rate, you must be a federal U.S. government employee.

Then I guess your question is answered. You'll have to check on a hotel-by-hotel basis.

Yep. What is more, looks like the hyatt.com statement is not right!

It's especially so for state govt rates. I'm an educator employed by a state university so that's what I look for. Some places will say "state govt id required", some will say "only state of XYZ employees", and recently the lost pines TX says "state govt id required, educators not".

So check the rate rules before you book anything.

After some research, it looks like you can join for free if you qualify as one of the following:

  • Arts, design, and entertainment
  • Media and advertising
  • Financial services
  • Nonprofit
  • Technology
  • Domestic child care giver (non-institutional and for a child to whom you're not related)
  • Skilled computer user (A skilled computer user is one who uses specialized software in one or more of the following occupations: Graphic design, Architecture, Web design, Nanotechnology, Web programming, Content development, Music or song composition, Software development, Computer programming, Computer-related support to companies outside the computer industry. Some examples of software used in these fields are: Quark, Avid, Auto CAD, ProTools, Logic, Flash, etc.)
  • Traditional or alternative health care provider
You can pay for a larger covered system, which you can read more about it here: https://www.freelancersunion.org/ben...-to-apply.html

Edit: Just signed up (quick and easy) and was able to access this page which gave the Hyatt Corporate Code. Must not be that secret, but they give pretty decent rates! 10% off the Best Available Rate...
