I'm almost afraid to post here, as the past few pages of this post have shown me some of the most childish and combative banter I've yet to see on FT, which is especially disheartening to see from 'evangelists' who should be making all corners of FT as welcoming as possible!
</rant>
But anyway...
I've genuinely spent the past week or so reading up on HGP (thank you to those who've provided productive material to the newbie & FAQ threads!) and am considering shifting some of my business toward Hyatt. I've grown bored with Marriott, I've maxed out Hilton status for the year, and I've really been hearing good things about Hyatt and want to make them a mainstay for my travel plans in the future. I'm not someone trying to game the system or plan for a single upcoming destination trip, I'm someone who's just trying to get familiar with HGP so I can work them into my business travel plans moving forward.
Sad that I feel the need to put that lengthy a disclaimer before my actual question...
Based on what I'm reading here, while this promo is on hiatus, there is currently no fast track to Diamond status, either though match or challenge, correct?
I guess I just have unfortunate timing. I could have easily given Hyatt 12+ stays before the clocks reset on Jan 1, and been able to hit the ground running for 2016. But I doubt I'd hit 25 stays by Dec 31 since Hyatt simply doesn't have a presence in many of the areas I have to visit for work. In my case, it probably makes sense to just revisit this in January I guess.
Anything I'm missing about trying to match/challenge status so I'm not starting from scratch with HGP? Thanks for any help or suggestions...

That said, it's a shame there is not diamond match any longer because you're the exact type of person I would hope Hyatt would want to attract. They're losing your business when possible, because the trial, for now, is over.
And that was my point in the entire group of postings. They're attracting those who would not ordinarily stay at a Hyatt, much less get any level of status. Some of them may never been seen from again. The effects of these policies can be seen at all the aspirational properties.
So keep on a look out for the updated trial program. I suspect they will come out with something.

I am calling tomorrow as it is the first of the month. If they do not have it, I am switching my reservations to Starwood and earn my points through them.

Well, I just called, and no dice. They still said it was closed on 7/31. It is a shame because I have prepaid for 3 nights already, and I have three more nights to stay elsewhere, so I would have been halfway there. That will learn me to prepay!

Thanks for the update. I have 8 nights. I may still go for 10 nights for the 20K promotion. Too bad regardless.

I just completed trial yesterday. My status changed this afternoon. What a deal, 11 nights @ $75 + points for points n cash. Splurged for the last one (really two) at the Park, DC, paying full price. After having earned status some years ago the usual way of lots of stays and nights this was a real gift from Hyatt.

Stayed exactly 12 nights. Last one was 27th (checkout 28th).
28th was my last day to complete the challenge.
Today (29th), received an email saying, "Thank you for participating in our Hyatt Gold Passport® Elite Tier offer. Unfortunately, you did not meet the stay criteria required to achieve Diamond status; however, we hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of Platinum membership through February 2017."
A bit annoyed (thinking about what I'd need to do to correct this, and whether it would be correctable), I logged into my Hyatt account to see if the most recent stay had posted.
It had posted, and my account shows me at Diamond tier until Feb 2017.
So, if you get the "you failed" email... check your account before being concerned about it.
