Park Hyatt Auckland - Pre-Opening discussion

I am certainly looking forward to having Hyatt return to New Zealand. Stayed in Auckland for 6 days in April and wasn't too pleased with the Hilton. Hopefully this lasts longer than the old Hyatt, which left the company in 2011.

My bet is that this will be Cat 6 or 7, anybody think otherwise?

This is very good news indeed for the region, now one can begin and/ or end a " luxury" trip from auckland and visit the wonderful lodges all over NZ .

The bad news , for me , is that it's conran + partners doing the interiors .
Unlike some of their restaurant designs , I have never liked any of their hotel interiors !!!

They must come up with a completely new design language , everything... for an acceptable high end lodging .

Nevertheless great great news !

It's a long way off but I can't see it being higher than category five. Much can change in three years, however.

Isn't construction always?

It doesn't even have a website yet...

I remember when the Westin Auckland first opened it was superior to the Hilton unfortunately it didn't go to well over time
Hopefully the Hyatt will keep all the competing properties on their toes,be good competition and set a standard of true luxury and service.

Last update 03 August - no predicted date for construction completion at that time.

174 Visas for Chinese workers to be issued in order to complete the work... as per this article, the PH should be completed by March 2019:

"....Fu Wah wants the workers to help finish the $200 million-plus Park Hyatt Hotel on Auckland's waterfront, expected to be finished by March next year...."

I wonder if this is another scheme to let rich chinese immigrate and move money out of country through investment category... we have quite a few hotels and businesses in development here under the same idea

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this as it's a way for me to avoid staying with my in-laws and it competes with the Hilton that's never impressed me outside of its location.
